RM 25 MILLION IN TICKET SALES SMASHES INTERNATIONAL ANIMATED FILM

Thursday 11/04/2019

KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 (Bernama) --  ‘Upin & Ipin : The Lone Gibbon Kris’, Les’ Copaque Production’s second full-length animated film has accumulated a total of RM 25 million in just 3 weeks with a total number of audience reaching 2 million. It is the highest record of all time for the category of animated films screened in Malaysian cinemas, even beating international film ‘Incredibles 2’ which held the record previously. What is even more amazing is that the sheer number of audience has never before been reached, and is now setting a new benchmark for local films. It is also expected to increase over the coming weeks.

The success of this film is the result of incredible writing by linking the titular Upin and Ipin with characters from classic Malay folklores including Mat Jenin, Raja Bersiong, and Nakhoda Ragam among many others. Additionally, the film includes a theme song that garners the attention of netizens who place it on par with other international animated films. ‘Upin & Ipin : The Lone Gibbon Kris’ is the perfect viewing experience for the whole family from children to senior citizens.

The main sponsor of the film, Citrex Gummy from Millennium Pharmacon International (MPI), is from neighbouring Indonesia. The company produces a variety of health products, the latest being Citrex Gummy, which is a chewy vitamin moulded in the shape of Upin and Ipin, rich in vitamin C.

The co-sponsor, iNEST consists of a group of young entrepreneurs who market home products such as water and air filters from South Korea @ COWAY. Their collaboration with Les’ Copaque aims to promote awareness on the needs of health appliances, especially in raising the habit of drinking clean filtered water especially among Malaysian children and producing more entrepreneurs capable of providing good services to consumers and communities.

The film’s production cost almost reached RM 20 million, making it the most expensive Malaysian film produced by the expertise of local talents. It is seen as a new benchmark in terms of the quality of the local animation industry in all aspects on par with international standards. It is hoped that the company is able to accumulate a great amount of sales with support from fellow Malaysians watching this film in cinemas and avoiding illegal recording and uploading of the film to any social media platforms.

‘UPIN & IPIN : THE LONE GIBBON KRIS’ is a film produced by Les’ Copaque Production Sdn. Bhd., sponsored by Citrex Gummy by Millennium Pharmacon International (MPI), co-sponsored by iNEST, distributed by GSC Movies, with Astro as media partner, FunNow as digital partner, and supported by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS). ‘UPIN & IPIN : THE LONE GIBBON KRIS’ is still screening in cinemas nationwide, so catch it in cinemas near you.
