PIKOM intends to organise FOCS annually and work together with KKMM and CSM |
KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- The inaugural Future of Cybersecurity Conference today saw over 300 information security executives from the industry and the government come together to address the critically- increasing battle against cybersecurity threats that can cripple organisations, infrastructure and economies. Organized by PIKOM, the National Tech Association of Malaysia, this conference addresses digital economic concerns relating to disruptions in innovation, 5G revolution, modern trends in addressing cyberthreats and business security. At the launch of the conference, which was aptly themed “Catch Me If You Can”, Chairman Ganesh Kumar Bangah highlighted the importance of having the industry leading this conversation. “As PIKOM represents the biggest digital tech industry in the country, it is only appropriate that we lead an active role to address the challenges as well as opportunities relating to cybersecurity. This is indeed a significant milestone for PIKOM as we continue to work alongside industry partners, government agencies and the academia to keep abreast with the digital transformation that knows no boundaries,” says Ganesh at the Future of Cybersecurity Opening Ceremony. The conference was officiated by YBhg Dato’ Dr Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of Cybersecurity Malaysia, who also represented the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia. Dato’ Dr Amir stressed that as long as the government and the industry form alliances, partnerships and collaborations, and able to reach out to global players with similar interests, cybersecurity will remain as the leading subject of conversation within the digital economy. “Cybersecurity is the number one megatrend shaping the industry, shaping the economy and will play its greatest role in the next few years to come. There is no stopping the cyberthreats for as long as technology is access able, borderless and continuously face disruption,” he quipped as he presented the keynote address before officiating the conference. Notable speakers from local and abroad including James Ball of CloudFlare covered some of the major techniques leveraged by attackers, such as IP spoofing, SSDP, Memcashed, and more with examples. The Head of Solutions Engineering APAC at Cloudflare also demonstrated the increasing complexity of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks and the preventive measures to secure all Internet applications. There are no signs of cyber-attacks slowing down anytime soon. News surrounding high profile cyber security incidents and data breaches continue to appear time and again, lest many others that go unreported as well. With the continuous advancement of machine learning and 5G deployments connecting billions of devices around the corner, attack surfaces for threat actors will expand many folds. Continues Ganesh, “We are pleased that National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), Cybersecurity Malaysia (CSM) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) are supportive of this initiative. With key industry partners at our first Future of Cybersecurity Conference, this reflects the private-public partnership edge that is critical to meet the challenges of cybersecurity, enabling cooperation to share challenges and pull strengths in addressing them. PIKOM plans to organize the Future of Cybersecurity Conference annually. This year, the conference garnered support from key cybersecurity partners that include Fortinet, CISCO, Cloudflare, RSA, Dell, Gigamon, Infoblox, ICT Productivity Nexus of Malaysia Productivity Corporation, Sentinel One, Dimension Data, Asia Cybersecurity Exchange and Glocomp Systems signed up as partners of the conference.
