KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (Bernama) -- Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) wishes to draw attention on a report dated 01 July by Malaysiakini regarding a “gangster-like raid” by IRBM during a raid on a taxpayers premise in
March 2018.
It must be stressed that investigation method in the form of raids has been stopped immediately since
May 2018, after the new government took over the administration of the country. At present, no raids are conducted by IRBM against any taxpayers. Referring to the investigation reported in the news portal, as is with the case of other investigations, the investigation was undertaken after giving due consideration to all information and intelligence evidence obtained and analysed in connection with the taxpayer. The work process relating to investigation has been outlined in the Tax Investigation Framework which can be accessed through the official portal of IRBM at
www.hasil.gov.my.
Investigation done found that the taxpayer and his company failed to declare their business income involving a huge amount in tax evasion. However, IRBM is subject to confidentiality under Section 138 of the Income Tax Act 1967, where detailed information on this matter cannot be disclosed to third parties.
However, based on initial findings of the investigation case reported by the portal, the investigation was carried out in a professional manner in line with the investigation framework and the provisions of the law under the Income Tax Act 1967.
IRBM is reviewing the claims and allegations made and will not hesitate to take legal action against any person who tries to tarnish the image and reputation of this agency by making such false claims.
