KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- Doorknobs, handrails, food court cutlery, and airport trays are just some of the frequent touch surfaces that can carry harmful bacteria or fungus when it is not properly disinfected. However, the typical go-to solution of heavier detergent washing is not only costly but unsustainable as well. So, what is the solution?
Professor Jackie Ying, an American nanotechnology scientist who holds 180 primary patents and 32 licensed patents to her name, a Fellow of A*Star Singapore and the US National Academy of Inventors (NAI) – a prestigious group which has 29 Nobel laureates, is the founder of Rozinco.
Rozinco is a patented nanotech-based additive that provides a lasting coat of anti-bacterial protection to a broad variety of touch surfaces. The additive excels against its competitors in that it kills all types of bacteria and fungus, is non-toxic to humans and animals, does not cause skin irritation, sensitivity or activate allergies and eliminates odors.
Aside from its obvious application in hospitals, Rozinco can be bonded with textiles such as hijabs, costumes, and clothing used in the fashion & modeling industry; hotel bed pillows, linens, bath towels used in hospitality line; exercise equipment, yoga mats, gym balls commonly found at public & private membership gymnasiums; and pet care products such as food bowls, harnesses and playhouses.
“Urban consumers are demanding high quality living spaces that are bacteria-free and odorless. Pet lovers are also a steadily growing market across the world and efforts are in the way by applying Rozinco onto our pet care products (NattyPetz) And loving parents increasingly want to protect their babies from lung infections caused by bacteria spread,” she adds. “Combined, the market size of these three target customer segments is estimated to be a US$160b in 2020; and the company aims to capture US$500m of market share over the next 5 years.”
Rozinco is researched, developed, manufactured and delivered by Astral Nanotec Pte Ltd, based in Singapore. Astral Nanotec has trademarked the product Rozinco, a licensed and patented super zinc oxide composite which can kill all bacteria and odors emission upon contact. The technology is licensed by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research of Singapore (A*Star) and protected by a worldwide patent PCT/SG2017/050463.

Ying’s company looks positioned to success as she continues to demonstrate her passion in her field, having most recently won the Turkish Academy of Sciences Prizes for Science and Engineering in 2018; as well as her experience in the business. Her last company Smartcells was acquired by Merck in a $500m milestone payments deal.
