KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) -- With technology revolutionising industries and banks transitioning to a borderless cyber ecosystem, world-class banking talent who possess knowledge, competence and transparency will continue to be a key determinant of success for banks seeking to navigate digital transformation.
This was the timely message emphasised by Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB) Chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim at the 3rd Chartered Banker Conferment and 22nd Graduation Ceremony. Held on 13 July at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the ceremony featured the conferment of the prestigious Chartered Banker designation on over 100 eminent bankers, who represented the third cohort of banking professionals in Malaysia to be awarded the qualification.
Reiterating the critical role bankers play in strengthening public trust and upholding high professional standards in the Banking 4.0 environment, Tan Sri Azman said: “The banker of the future must be agile, attuned to changing trends of the digital era and yet uncompromising in their integrity and professionalism. The globally recognised Chartered Banker qualification identifies you as a change agent and an ambassador of professionalising the banking industry, and hopefully many here today will inspire others to be AICB members.” He added that following the conferment ceremony, there are now close to 200 Chartered Bankers in Malaysia.
In the same vein, AICB Chief Executive Prasad Padmanaban highlighted the importance of being a member of AICB and the Institute’s role in nurturing a future-ready pool of banking talent: “AICB plays a significant role in building a sustainable pipeline of banking professionals with the right skills and values to remain relevant and competitive in the new banking landscape. The Institute is committed to ensuring that our professional banking qualifications continue to meet industry needs, and I am happy to note that with our strong growth in membership, this further reinforces a greater acceptance and commitment to professionalising the banking industry. Therefore, I believe it is imperative that we continue our efforts to advocate an exemplary level of ethics and professionalism within Malaysia’s banking workforce.”
Representatives of the banking sector in Malaysia, including regulators, banking associations, and commercial banks, also graced the event. In 2018, over 2,400 banking practitioners successfully completed the Institute’s professional qualifications in key areas of banking, including risk, internal audit, compliance, credit, anti-money laundering and financial markets.
