KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- Thai entrepreneurs from various industries are heading to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching to seek for business collaboration and networking with Sabahan and Sarawakian entrepreneurs under the event called “
Bridging Trade and Investment Relations between Thailand and East Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak)”. Jointly organized by the Office of Commercial Affairs - Kuala Lumpur (DITP-KL) under Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, Federation of Sabah Industries (FSI) and Sarawak Business Federation (FBF), 2 events will be taking place consecutively; the first on
21st August 2019 at Hilton Hotel Kota Kinabalu; and the second on
23rd August 2019 at Pullman Kuching Hotel. Each event will be consisted of 2 important sessions including Trade Forum and Business Matching Activity.
Presided by H.E. Narong Sasitorn, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, the Trade Forum under this auspicious event aims to portray the future outlook of Thai economy under the newly elected government and outline potential trade opportunities between Thailand and East Malaysia. Chief Ministers of each state have been invited to deliver keynote address. Speakers include Mr.
Krit Kraichitti, Advisor of Thailand-Malaysia Business Council (TMBC) and Former Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia; Datuk IR Chong Hon Len, President of Federation of Sabah Industries (FSI); Datuk Dr. Philip D I Ting, Deputy President of Sarawak Business Federation (SBF); Mr. Kalin Sarasin, President of Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC); Mr. Panitan Pawarolarnwitthaya, Committee member of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Chairman of Boutique Newcity Public Company Limited; and Mr. Prakhan Kordumrong, Executive Director of Office of Overseas Market Development, DITP
. The forum will provide insights on arising business potentials and challenges which are beneficial to Sabah and Sarawak business owners.
H.E. Narong Sasitorn, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia emphasized, “Malaysia and Thailand have long-standing ties in terms of trade and investment. However, Thailand's trade with Malaysia is currently concentrated on the Peninsula especially in Klang Valley and Penang. With abundant resources, Sabah and Sarawak are among the states with the highest business potential to grow. I truly hope that this event will open up new business opportunities and partnerships between our two countries and bring our business communities even closer.”
To be conducted in the afternoon of each event, the
Business Matching activity is the key enabler to enhance closer collaboration between private sectors from both sides. There will be 11 Thai companies participating in the business matching session who eager to meet with business leaders from Sabah and Sarawak; including 3 companies from Food Industry (UNIFIRM CO., LTD., TRADING APLUS CO., LTD., K NINE BUSINESS CO., LTD), 3 from Automotive Spare Parts (FIVE STAR AUTOPART CO., LTD., P.E.TECHNIC CO., LTD., TAC SIAM CO., LTD.), 1 Bathroom and Kitchen Cabinet (SIAM HOUSE & HOME CO., LTD., 1 Architectural Design Services (DESIGN 103 INTERNATIONAL LTD.), 1 Security Lock and Hardware (SOLEX INTERNATIONAL (THAILAND) CO., LTD.), 1 Ice Machine for Factory (PATKOL PUBLIC CO., LTD.) and 1 Rubber Pressing Machine (A.R.C. Ms. Patcha Wutipan, Minister Counsellor (Commercial) said that “This event is a great opportunity for Thailand, Sabah and Sarawak entrepreneurs to build up networks. We are expecting to grow two-way trade and explore investment opportunity in Sabah and Sarawak. However, there are also a few challenges that we have to overcome particularly lack of knowledge of each other as well as high logistics and transportation costs in order to expand trade volume either export or import. There are several industries that Thailand has competitive advantages including agro-industry, food and beverage, automotive industry, refrigeration and air-conditioning, tourism-related and creative service industry. These are the potential areas that Thailand, Sabah and Sarawak could start building up business collaborations.”
