  MALINDO AIR TOUCHES DOWN IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

PETALING JAYA, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Malindo Air OD171 has safely touched down in Sydney Airport today. Flight OD171 with a total of 141 passengers on-board, including CEO of Malindo Air, Chandran Rama Muthy. The inaugural flight departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 10:30p.m. on Wednesday, with a one-hour stopover in Denpasar (Bali).
 
The passengers received a warm welcome this morning by Sydney Airport Management with souvenirs giveaway and a special appearance of a Koala mascot at the arrival gates.
 
Flight OD172 from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur, via Denpasar was sent off at 12:00p.m. As passengers checked in, they were presented with exclusive cupcake branded with Malindo Air logo, celebratory gift bag and entertained by Indonesian Gamelan Orchestra, creating a Balinese ambience in Sydney International Airport.

Chandran Rama Muthy, CEO of Malindo Air said, “We are thrilled to add the much anticipated harbour city, Sydney to our network. We believe this connection will attract both business and leisure travellers alike, wherein it is foreseen to enhance greater passengers’ traffic while promoting the local eco-tourism.”
 
“There is a strong market on consumer trade between Malaysia and Sydney, hence this new route is likely to encourage many business travellers, given the strategic flight timings and a seamless journey. Whereas in view of leisure prospects, its undeniable that this city has much attractions to offer, including rich culinary arts, thrilling adventures and of course significant monuments such as the iconic Opera House, which was previously recognised as one of the Wonders of the World,” he continued.
 
“Our passengers have always enjoyed the comfortable legroom and the business class option that we offer. We look forward to exploring more frequencies to and from Sydney in the near future,” he added.
 
Group chief executive officer of Malaysia Airports, Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin welcomes Malindo Air’s new service from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney via Denpasar. “With this fifth addition to the airline’s Australia route, we hope that it will further augment connectivity for both Malaysia and Australia. This new route is sure to attract business and leisure travellers. But above all, we applaud Malindo Air for their active pursuit in establishing routes into Australia, which will boost passenger traffic especially with the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2020 year,” he said.
 
While the Special Staff of the Minister of Tourism, Judi Rifajantoro, gave appreciation to Malindo for opening this route. "Accessibility is very important to support foreign tourist arrivals and we thank Malindo Air for this new route initiative. To the Sydneysiders joining this flight, I wish them an enjoyable flight and trust they enjoy the beauty of Bali”.
 
Sydney marks the fifth city in Australia under Malindo Air’s network, after Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide. The daily flights between Sydney and Kuala Lumpur, via Denpasar, are operated using a Boeing 737-800/900 aircraft, comprising 12 Business Class and 150/168 Economy Class seats. 
 
Promotional one way fare from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney is from RM799 for Economy Class and RM2,899 for Business Class.
