KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- Organised by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change (MESTECC), the 10th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2019 witnessed a total of 16 Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs), strengthening its position as the region’s most successful green technology, business and innovation platform.

To further their efforts in building a low carbon nation, IGEM 2019’s co-organiser, Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia) inked a total of 6 MoUs, forming partnerships with multiple leading organisations including Shell Malaysia Limited, CDP Worldwide (UK), AmBank Islamic Berhad, Professional Bodies Malaysia, TNB Energy Services and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

Minister of MESTECC, Yang Berhormat Puan Yeo Bee Yin said, “IGEM has a longstanding track record of converging innovators and investors to establish partnerships that not only benefit the industry but also offer new employment opportunities, new sustainable products and services as well as new market inroads.”

“The MoUs witnessed at IGEM 2019 signify further cooperation between the government and green businesses that will reinforce the existing green strategies in Malaysia and offer practical solutions to address climate issues,” she added.

Lending credence to IGEM’s reputation for forging partnerships, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and its wholly owned subsidiary GSPARX Sdn Bhd inked two Supply Agreement for Renewable Energy with Ain Medicare Sdn Bhd and TATI University for the installation of solar photovoltaic system. Following this, PETRONAS sealed two individual MoUs with Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS and Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd for the installation of solar rooftop solutions.

Further on the renewable energy sector, the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA Malaysia) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) exchanged a MoU to enhance the scope of energy management support in the latter’s biogas, biomass and energy management research facilities. SEDA will also partner Power Ledger Pty Ltd for a pilot run under MESTECC’s Renewable Energy Transition Roadmap 2035.

Chief Executive Officer of SEDA, Dr V. Sanjayan said, “We are pleased to be a part of this year’s IGEM as well as sharing a platform with numerous businesses in working to champion green energy growth in Malaysia. As the custodian in charge of expanding Malaysia’s renewable energy, SEDA Malaysia is constantly looking to team up with industry leaders from various sectors to develop innovative and engaging initiatives that will spur adoption and market growth.”

“We have always participated at IGEM as it has huge potential in terms of exploring new partnerships and connections. We are very happy to have cemented strategic partnerships at IGEM 2019; I am confident that the alliances forged today will contribute to Malaysia’s sustainability goals,” he added.

Another milestone MoU was between Plus Solar and UOB Malaysia to develop green awareness and customised financing solutions to achieve the nation’s renewable energy mix of 20% by 2025. Hyva and Amsterdam Waste Environmental Consultancy & Technology B.V. with the support of Verbaas Capital have joined forces to enhance waste management strategies and practices in the state of Johor.
