PETRONAS Volunteers Reach Out to Less Privileged Communities

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Yayasan PETRONAS, the CSR arm of PETRONAS, yesteday kicked off a series of activities in celebration of Deepavali, as part of its Sentuhan Kasih programme, involving 500 PETRONAS volunteers and 500 beneficiaries from various charities, schools and homes across seven states.
 
Yayasan PETRONAS is working with several state agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) until 24 October to distribute basic necessities, household items, hampers as well as new clothes, worth a total of RM280,000 to less privileged families and orphans.
 
Yayasan PETRONAS Chief Executive Officer Lita Osman said: “Our team believes in the spirit of sharing especially during festive occasions when these children need more love and attention – especially when they’re not able to celebrate at home with loved ones. We hope our small presence makes a difference in their lives.”
 
The celebration yesterday at Pertubuhan Kebajikan Ephratha in Rawang saw 31 beneficiaries receiving household items and vouchers for the purchase of new clothes.
 
One of the volunteers, M Faiz Zaidani Fazilah said: “I  am grateful to Yayasan PETRONAS for enabling me to contribute my time and effort to be with the beneficiaries. It was such a humbling experience to see how much they appreciate what little we have to give.”

The Sentuhan Kasih Yayasan PETRONAS programme is part of the Foundation’s Community Well-being and Development focus area, initiated to coincide with major celebrations in Malaysia. It provides an avenue for Yayasan PETRONAS to work with communities to provide for their basic needs and well-being.
