7TH ASIAN NATIONAL MUSEUMS ASSOCIATION (ANMA) MEETING AND CONFERENCE

Tuesday 29/10/2019

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) through Departments of Museums Malaysia hosted the 7th Asian National Museums Association (ANMA) Meeting and Conference under the theme “Social Unity through Culture, Art and History: The Museum Challenges” starting from 29th until 31st October 2019.

The 7th ANMA Meeting and Conference is a platform for museum professionals to address the current issues and challenges of unity through the role of culture, art and history in respective countries. The meeting also brought the policymakers, stakeholders and broader community to engage with museum’s initiative.

This program involved 39 delegates from 16 member countries (Kingdom of Cambodia, People’s Republic of China, Republic of Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Federal of Philippines, Republic of Singapore, Kingdom of Thailand and Socialist Republic of Vietnam) and 5 observer countries (Azerbaijan, People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Sultanate of Oman, Republic of Kazakhstan and Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste). The 200 participants were from various categories such as professionals, students, private sectors and government agencies.

The 7th ANMA was officiated by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Tuan Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, alongside with Director General Department of Museums Malaysia, Datuk Kamarul Baharin A. Kasim.

Tuan Muhammad Bakhtiar said “As museums are faced with a range of challenges which have made change inevitable, the task is even more daunting for national museums that carry our national identity and provide the vital roles of national unity, peace keeping and nation building”.

“The accelerated growth of consumer culture and the competition for people’s time and attention are another challenge faced by museums. The speed technology and the explosion of IR 4.0 forces museums to keep up with new forms of engagement. Museums responded in various ways with blockbuster exhibitions, iconic building, cultural districts, and much more becoming an important part of one of the worlds’ fastest growing and largest industries: tourism,” he added.
