Collaboration with the Department of Environment on Environmental Debate 2019
 
KUALA NERUS, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- PETRONAS in collaboration with the Department of Environment (DOE) organised the 26^th Environmental Debate recently in conjunction with the National Environment Day 2019. The debate took place from 1-3 November 2019 at the Sultan Zainal Abidin University (UNISZA), Terengganu.  
 
A total of 28 higher learning institutions nationwide competed to win a grand prize of RM8,000. The prize-giving ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis. Also present were DOE Director-General, Norlin Jaafar, UNISZA Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Hassan Basri and PETRONAS Head of Environment & Social  Performance, Health, Safety, Security and Environment Division, Ungku Haslina Ungku M Tahir.
 
Ungku Haslina said the collaboration is a continuous commitment by PETRONAS in supporting the government's efforts to inculcate the culture of preserving and protecting the environment among students of higher learning institutions and the youth.
 
“This collaboration also highlights PETRONAS' efforts and commitment to environmental sustainability and social well-being wherever we operate," she added.
 
The Environmental Debate is an annual event organised by DOE, to raise awareness and knowledge on environmental issues while discovering oratory skills among students nationwide. The debate topic for this year revolves around issues such as climate change, global warming and renewable energy, of which, issues that are currently being discussed or debated internationally.
 
On 2 November 2019, PETRONAS participated in the Environmental Day celebration organised by the DOE of Terengganu, held at Wisma Darul Iman, Kuala Terengganu. The ceremony was launched by Dr Haji Alias Razak, Chairman of the Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Committee of Terengganu. PETRONAS also participated in the event through an exhibition booth featuring its efforts in environmental conservation, in addition to promoting the company's efforts in renewable energy (RE).
