THE 1ST GWC AWARDS & RECOGNITION CEREMONY TAKES PLACE IN KUALA LUMPUR

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- The 1st GWC Awards & Recognition Ceremony took place at Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat on the 11th of November 2019 after the 7th Global Waqf Conference came to an end for the evening. The 1st GWC Awards & Recognition Ceremony was graced by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato' Seri Dr Wan Azizah binti Wan Ismail as the Guest of Honor. The Awards & Recognition Ceremony was a private affair with just 250 guests present. In attendance were H.H Prince Dr Bandar Bin Salman Bin Muhammad Al-Saud, Chairman of Al-Madinah International University (Mediu), Waqf Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud Rahimahu Allah, and H.R.H Sultan Muhammadu Sa’adu Abubakar III, Sultan of Sokoto, Nigeria. Other attendees included ambassadors, speakers, delegates, corporates such as Finterra as its official technology Partner, Bank Rakyat the official Banking and Venue Partner in addition to multiple other strategic partners. The Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, who is also the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, stressed the importance and benefits of waqf as a socio-economic driver, which leads to a better quality of life. Furthermore, she spoke about the role of waqf in helping women, family and the whole community and how Waqf is a great enabler for social change and development of society. She encouraged all the stakeholders from within the Waqf space to embrace change, in light of new social developments, innovations, technology, economy, and to cater to the needs of the millennials. In the category of Lifetime Achievement, Finterra’s Advisor for Waqf, Prof. Dr. Syed Khalid Rashid, Professor of Law (IIUM), who is also the founding director of the International Center for Waqf Research (ICWR) was the winner.
