  MEDIA STATEMENT KUALA LUMPUR SUMMIT 2019

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- The four-day Kuala Lumpur Summit 2019, themed "The Role of Development in Achieving National Sovereignty" will converge 450 delegates from 56 countries is set to take place from December 18 to 21 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

The Summit is a platform for thinkers, intellectuals, politicians and community leaders from Muslim countries to discuss common interests including state of affairs of the Ummah, among others; the incarceration of Muslims around the globe, mass migration of Muslims due to civil wars and the rise of Islamophobia. The Summit will focus on seven main thrust; national development and sovereignty, integrity and good governance, culture and identity, justice and freedom, peace, security and defence, trade and investment and also technology and internet governance.

The Heads of Government/State that have confirmed participation are the Emir of Qatar His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, President of the Republic of Turkey His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran His Excellency Hassan Rouhani. Meanwhile, Indonesia will be presented by its Vice President His Excellency Ma’ruf Amin and Uzbekistan by its State Advisor to the President His Excellency Rustam Kasimov.

In recognition to the importance of youth in the Islamic world, the Summit inaugural youth edition - The Youth KL Summit 2019 – themed “Youth Empowerment in Facing Global Challenges” is being held to discuss the role of youth in the development of Islamic countries. Dialogues on six clusters are being held including aiming to strengthen the well-being of youth in the education sector, catalysing digital economy, strengthening the future of youth in politics, gig economy and sustainability, adapting to the challenges of IR 4.0 and spreading integrity and transparency in ensuring good governance. The Youth KL Summit resolutions will then be presented to the leaders of the main KL Summit.

Apart from the delegates from 56 countries the conference is expected to receive extensive coverage from close to 800 local and international media practitioners.
