KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), through the Employment Insurance System (EIS) ushers in the New Year with
over 3,056 vacancies available for a nationwide open job interview to be held at various SOCSO State Offices on 8 and 9 January 2020. A total of
50 employers from all over the country will be participating in the open interviews including Jakel Trading, St. Jude Medical Operation Sdn Bhd, and Park Inn by Radisson Putrajaya.
SOCSO Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said one of the reasons SOCSO organises the nationwide open job interviews is because there have been many cases of loss of employment, even at the tail-end of December 2019.
The recent Media Prima Berhad retrenchment exercise is just one example, where it was unfortunate for more than 900 affected employees. The employees received the letters in December 2019 but the retrenchment will take effect on 15 March 2020.
“I can only imagine the plight of those who lost their jobs in December with children starting school or university in January, having a lot of expenditure to tackle.
“In 2019, as many as 40,084 persons submitted claims for loss of employment, believed to be the result of the impact of digitalization of the economy. The loss of employment figure as reported to SOCSO EIS is certainly of great concern to us,” Dr. Mohammed Azman remarked.
As a Public Employment Services provider, SOCSO will ensure that our contributors who had to go through such a phase are not only provided with cash benefits but also opportunities for other employments as soon as possible. This is made possible with the Employment Insurance System (EIS).
The EIS that came into effect on 1 January 2018, consists of two components, namely Employment Insurance and Employment Services. Employment Insurance provides temporary financial assistance up to six months depending on the contribution qualifying conditions whereby Employment Services assists beneficiaries in securing employment opportunities. SOCSO’s Employment Services is not only confined to beneficiaries but is also open to all job seekers including graduates and school leavers.
