EMPLOYERS WHO HAVE NOT RECEIVED WAGE SUBSIDY PAYMENT CAN DIRECTLY CONTACT SOCSO CEO

Friday 26/06/2020

KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) -- The extension of the Wage Subsidy Programme (WSP) as announced in the Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) by YAB Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin recently reflects the Government's concern over the difficulties faced by employers and workers in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.

To facilitate employers in maintaining their business operations and retaining their workers during these challenging times, the Government has also relaxed the conditions under the WSP which include:

i) Employers receiving wage subsidy are allowed to implement reduced work week accompanied by a reduced pay of up to 30% with employee consent.

ii) Employers are allowed to receive wage subsidy for employees on unpaid leave, subject to employees getting the subsidy directly – applicable for tourism sector and businesses prohibited from operating during the Recovery Movement Control Order.

At the same time, the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) is very concerned with problems faced by employers who have yet to receive the Wage Subsidy payments. Upon review of cases that have been rejected by the bank, SOCSO found that there is still an error in the BRN (Business Registration Number) or bank account number provided in the WSP application, while there are employers who gave dormant bank accounts or uncontactable phone numbers.

For employers who have not received Wage Subsidy payments, they can call SOCSO at the hotline number 1-300-22- 8000 or visit any of SOCSO offices.

As a concerned organisation, SOCSO takes employers’ difficulties seriously. Hence, with effect from today, any employer who has not received the Wage Subsidy payment, can directly contact SOCSO Chief Executive Offficer through email ceo@perkeso.gov.my.

SOCSO will do our utmost to make sure that payments are made to all employers eligible for the Wage Subsidy.
