Group training academy named after former CIMB Chairman and Group CEO and the establishment of an alumni network which aims to enrich connections for past, present and future talent pool KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- CIMB Group (“CIMB” or “the Group”) celebrates the virtual unveiling of Akademi Nazir Razak (“the Academy”) and the launch of CIMB Alumni Network on 19 October 2020. The occasion saw the renaming of its existing group training facility after the Group’s former Chairman and Group CEO, who was instrumental in shaping CIMB into the leading regional financial group it is today. Concurrently, Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak became the first registered member and Patron of the newly launched CIMB Alumni Network which aims to be an invaluable networking platform for former and current employees.
Datuk Mohd Nasir Ahmad, Chairman, CIMB Group said, “Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak has a permanent place in CIMB’s history as a pioneering leader, unwavering in his 29 years of service. Under his leadership, he built CIMB from a home-grown Malaysian brand into a leading regional banking group, today being the fifth largest bank by assets and with presence in all countries across ASEAN. Dato’ Sri Nazir has also been active in giving back to our communities and was instrumental in the establishment of CIMB Foundation, which is now in its 13th year. Further, he is extremely passionate about leadership development and it is in this spirit of building the leaders of tomorrow - sharpening acumen, promoting professionalism and having passion in innovation - that the Group has named the training academy after him.”
Dato’ Sri Nazir said, “CIMB was the love of my professional life. I was so fortunate to have served for 29 years, work and get to know thousands of fellow CIMBians and share in its amazing corporate journey from a small Malaysian merchant bank to an ASEAN financial powerhouse. I am humbled to now have the company’s main training facility in my name, not least because the best returns a bank makes is always from its investment in its people.”
Akademi Nazir Razak is located in Bangi, Selangor where courses covering technical skill areas across the banking group are carried out, while also catering for coaching in non-technical areas. CIMB places high importance on continuous learning and development in order to build a productive culture at the workplace and to future-proof its employees. In recent years, CIMB has intensified its commitment to delivering training and familiarisation in 3D skills i.e. Data, Digital and Design as part of its commitment to future-proof its staff, through its 3D Academy programme.
CIMB Alumni NetworkAt the same time, the establishment of CIMB Alumni Network is seen as a platform to preserve the bond of former staff to the firm. Dato’ Abdul Rahman Ahmad, Group CEO, CIMB Group said, “The formation of the CIMB Alumni Network is a timely and welcome one. The sense of shared history is something that connects us all and I hope this will be a platform that allows us to continue to be a part of the legacy they helped create at CIMB. I firmly believe the CIMB Alumni Network will provide not only strong linkages amongst former colleagues but also offer the existing CIMB team an opportunity to learn from the experiences and wisdom of past leaders and colleagues.”
