Malaysians Earn Local and Global Top Spots in Financial Reporting, Financial Management and Strategic Business Leader papers

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, ACCA students who sat for their September examinations made the nation proud. Closed to 150,000 students worldwide who sat for their papers, many Malaysians were listed among the top 20 in worldwide placements, among them Lim Yan Zhe, who earned world #1 in both the Financial Reporting (FI) and Financial Management (FM) papers, and Chai Ee Li who claimed the top world spot in the Strategic Business Leader (SBL) paper.

While the top three national placements for the September 2020 examinations went to Xue Wern Tan, with Sara Aina Mohd Zaharan and Caroline Yi Wye Ng tying for second place, followed by Wong Hui Si.

“These achievements are extraordinary, particularly with the disruptions and uncertainties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Edward Ling, Country Head of ACCA Malaysia. “Their hard work and diligence will serve them well on their journey to achieving a world-class qualification that is respected around the globe. We are very proud of each students’ achievements and confident their future will be bright.”

The sense of accomplishment among these students is undeniable, with hopes and dreams undampened by the current situation.

Lim Yan Zhe, a student from Johor Bahru, was astonished when he received the news. “It made my day, and I am so grateful to my family and friends who supported me, and my lecturers for their consistent guidance throughout this pandemic. Switching to online learning was initially a challenge, however, once I got used to it, I found it to be equally effective and gave me a lot of flexibility.”

“ACCA was the natural choice for me because it is recognised internationally and gives me flexible pathways to become a chartered accountant. I plan to pursue a career in auditing and assurance with an ACCA-approved employer and to one day work with one of the big accounting firms,” he added.

Equally elated, Chai Ee Li never expected to achieve such outstanding results. “As I’m currently working as an Assurance Executive in Ernst & Young Singapore, working from home gave me more time to prepare for the exam, with more studying and revisions instead of travelling to and from work. With these results, I’m energised to complete my ACCA qualification so that I have more opportunities and better prospects, and the chance to be a knowledgeable advisor who can provide good solutions to my clients.”

“While celebrating the achievement of the students, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the critical role that ACCA’s Approved Learning Partners (ALPs) and their lecturers play in helping to develop and groom these young talented individuals into top professional accountants who will one day lead economies in Malaysia and beyond,” added Ling.
