Solar at LATAR Kundang Timur Tol KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Following the previous announcement on 4 December 2017 by BP Energy Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned power subsidiary of Bina Puri Holdings Bhd to undertake a development of 5.00 MWa.c. Large Scale Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Plant in Kunak, Sabah, the Company received
a Letter of Notification dated 16 November 2020 from Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) on revision of the Commercial Operation Date to
31st December 2022. In a statement today, Bina Puri Group Executive Director, Datuk Matthew Tee Kai Woon said:
“Moving forward, we are indeed very positive with the new development in the project implementation, despite having faced with various challenges in the early stage including the changes in local government and authorities. With this announcement, we are confident to secure more power projects into the portfolio. The project is on Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis, located at Kampung Dasar in Kunak, Sabah”. For record on 5 June 2017, Bina Puri Power Unit, PT Megapower Makmur (MPOW), an independent power producer was listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange, IDX. MPOW is operating four diesel power plants with capacity of 14.0 megawatts at four (4) locations throughout Indonesia and a 4.2 megawatts mini-hydro plant at Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia. Bina Puri is
the First Non-Government Link Company (Non-GLC) being successfully listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). Bina Puri also supported the green energy initiatives by installing solar panels along the KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) to reduce energy bills under an arrangement with Tenaga Nasional Berhad. The solar panels were mounted on useable rooftops and on designated land area with a combined capacity of 413.60kWp.
Large Scale Solar Plant (LSSP) is one of the initiatives of ST to increase the penetration of Renewable Energy in the market. Malaysia intends to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHS) emissions intensity by 45 percent by 2030, and by then Malaysia is targeted to have 30 percent of Renewable Energy including hyro and solar farms. In Sabah itself, the demand of electricity is forecasted to grow at a rate of 5 percent (medium term) in year 2019-2024, after the short term forecast of 6.1 percent in 2015-2018. By the year 2035, demand of electricity in Sabah is forecasted at 1,238 MWac daily usage.
