Steam is being co-generated together with the electricity from its 350MW highly efficient and world-class performance cogeneration facility located in Gebeng, Pahang which has been the main driver since 1999, in providing total Utilities solutions and offering competitive power and steam tariff to its portfolio of customers. Other than Gebeng, PGB also operates similar facilities in Kerteh, Terengganu to serve the Kerteh Integrated Petrochemical Complex (KIPC).
“Sincere gratitude to our business partner to fulfill its mission, we are glad to receive the first steam supply from the infrastructure owner, PGB, which signifies a new phase in our journey towards serving our customers,” said PAP Managing Director, Yoshimitsu Shirai. PAP is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Polyplastics Limited Company, Japan and was set up in 1997. It is involved in the business of engineering plastics and is a certified multinational company devoted to innovation and new value. In April 2019, both PGB and PAP entered into two separate long-term Sales and Purchase Agreements. The first agreement was for the new supply of steam while the second one was for the extension of existing electricity supply between the two parties. PGB was incorporated in 1983 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of PETRONAS and listed on the main market of Bursa Malaysia on 4 September 1995. The Company is 51% owned by PETRONAS, while the remaining shares are held by other institutional investors and retail shareholders. It is Malaysia’s leading Gas Infrastructure and Utilities company with core businesses in Gas Processing, Gas Transmission, Regasification and Utilities. The Company processes natural gas piped from offshore fields and transports the processed gas via the Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) pipeline network to PETRONAS Group and its customers in Malaysia and Singapore. PGB also operates two regasification terminals - the Regasification Terminal Pengerang (RGTP) with 490 mmscfd, which is strategically located along the Straits of Johor and the Regasification Terminal Sungai Udang (RGTSU) in Melaka with 500 mmscfd capacity. Both terminals are connected to the PGU system.
Investment in the two regasification terminals reflects PGB’s commitment in supporting the Gas Supply (Amendment) 2016 (GSA), which aims to allow the Energy Commission’s licensed third party shippers to bring gas into the country. In addition, GSA liberalises the domestic gas market, increase competitiveness among players in the sector and ensures sustainable gas supply to the nation.
