  PROMULGATING MALAYSIA AS AN ISLAMIC FINTECH HUB

KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Bernama) -- In efforts to propagate Malaysia as the world’s leading Islamic financial technology (fintech) hub that houses various Islamic fintech start-ups, the Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC) had organized the 8th MFPC e-Conference on Islamic Wealth Management and Financial Planning today.
 
The 4-hour virtual conference consisted of 3 expert speakers on the topic and a roundtable session gathering experts and professionals from the financial industry especially from Islamic and Shariah related backgrounds garnered more than 800 audiences. The audience members that tuned in to the virtual event ranged from financial technology firms personnel, financial planners, wealth advisors, insurance / takaful agents; unit trust consultants and those from the financial industry with Shariah financial planning discipline.
 
Bringing the theme; Malaysia: A Hub for Shariah Fintech, this conference is designed as a platform to promote Malaysia as the country that has great advantages in leading the global industry in Islamic fintech by leveraging on its position as an Islamic finance hub and intensifying its efforts in value-based and sustainable financial solution. In the welcoming address by MFPC President, Vincent Kwo, he said that apart from the Council achieving outstanding progress in the Shariah Financial Planning education by introducing MFPC’s Learning Management System (LMS, the Council sees this virtual conference as one of the collective efforts that could be done to push for Islamic fintech agenda in Malaysia. Whilst we still have a long way to go, but the Council definitely see some great promises for this sector, especially with the existing competitive advantages in the Islamic banking space.

In the keynote address, YBhg Datuk Syed Zaid Albar, Chairman of Securities Commission Malaysia highlighted that it is important to embark on a digital transformation journey to achieve greater client servicing and efficiency in the provision of financial advice. Therefore, building a supportive and sustainable Islamic fintech ecosystem is definitely needed to widen commercial opportunities, spark international connections, and deepen technical expertise that will drive the sector forward and position Malaysia as a leading Islamic Fintech hub.
