KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) is ready to deploy the various advanced technologies in combating COVID-19 infections in the country.

The technology agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has developed numerous intelligent platforms that utilizes artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data management, simulations and others to mitigate COVID-19 based on FTTIS (find, test, trace, isolation, support).

Using data on infection hotspots, MARii's predictive modeling, and simulation platforms developed through the MARii Simulation and Analysis Centre (MARSAC), it is possible to predict infection patterns and identify high risk areas - to prescribe mass testing of coronavirus infections, particularly in finding asymptomatic carriers and preventing further spread of viruses.

While nasal swab tests can be performed to identify coronavirus carriers, MARii has also developed the ImmuSAFE COVID+ biochip test kit, a serology (blood) test that can identify prior infections and the presence of protective antibodies in individuals that have had a prior infection, regardless if they are symptomatic or asymptomatic.

The ImmuSAFE test has a sensitivity and specificity of 100% - and has been validated by the Institute for Medical Research (IMR).  The test results offer information on risk factors of infectiousness and presence of protective antibodies against COVID-19, benefitting industry players and businesses, that are now able to better manage the impacts of health risks of employees in their daily operations.

Tracing and isolation of close contacts of infected individuals, can be done through the MARii Tracker application - designed for health management within industries operating during the pandemic. Derived from big data, artificial intelligence and IoT platforms developed by MARii, the application identifies close contacts of infected persons, and also groups that can continue working without risk.

"MARii has built a strong track record in developing intelligent technologies for the automotive sector for more than a decade. As we evolved to serve beyond the automotive and mobility sector, many of our homegrown technologies have been adapted to applications in any sector, including health management", said MARii CEO, Datuk Madani Sahari.

He added that a significant portion of the technologies developed by MARii were in partnership with local companies in simulation, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, big data management and many other Industry 4.0 technologies. These include projects such as the MITI's COVID-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) and Safe@Work that were built within the MARii Cloud Web Services (MACWES).

These developments are in line with the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint 2021 (MyDigital) recently announced by the Prime Minister, and also in line with calls by Senior Minister and Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
