SELANGOR ASEAN BUSINESS CONFERENCE 2021 TO KICK-OFF FIRST WEBINAR SERIES

Monday 03/05/2021

Sustaining Growth within ASEAN through Innovation

SHAH ALAM, May 3 (Bernama) -- The Selangor ASEAN Business Conference (SABC) 2021 will kick off its live webinar series on Creating and Nurturing Industrial Revolution 4.0 Champions this coming Tuesday, May 4, 2021, from 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM.

With the theme of “Sustaining Growth within ASEAN through Innovation”, SABC this year will be conducted online, via a Webinar Series and a Full Day Hybrid Conference. In keeping with its tradition of bringing together prominent Speakers, business leaders, trade-related associations and public sector trade policy developers, its objectives will remain as providing a wide perspective on economic integration in ASEAN, and in addressing core and current issues related to the ASEAN Economic Community.

This year, the speakers will provide their opinions and expert advice on key issues affecting ASEAN member countries in the light of a post-COVID-19 pandemic world economic scenario, and how to sustain growth through innovation.

The COVID-19 restricted physical movement and lock-down pushed domicile to stay at home. At one end of the spectrum are its negative effects visible on the overall economies but at the other end of the spectrum, it was a testing time where “survival of the fittest” became a new norm. At the end, only the innovative ones survived the overwhelming crisis.

Malaysian businesses, in particular, adapted to the new ways of surviving and maintaining business sustainability during the crisis.  According to the World Bank, Malaysia is set to fare better than other ASEAN countries. Timely decisions on the economy, an effective public health response and robust macroeconomic policy support have all helped to weaken the pandemic effect. Malaysia’s manufacturing sector has been the main beneficiary to date in which foreign investors are relocating their manufacturing bases and Selangor, as the leading growth engine state in Malaysia is right at the centre stage of these dynamics, as well as the growing and expansion opportunities.

The new normal, calls for innovation not only for surviving but to continuously grow and be able to sustain the imminent Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0).  The series of Webinars and one-day Conference are created with sustainable growth in mind, and ASEAN as the marketplace.

The webinar series will feature 3 series; starting with the first series on May 4, 2021, the second series in August and last one in November 2021. The first one will feature some prominent speakers such as Datuk (Dr) Vinod Sekhar, Chairman and Chief Executive, PETRA Group, Heru Dewanto, President of Institution of Engineer Indonesia (PII), Indonesia and Dr Ichsan Ichsan, Business Advisor from PT Awina Sinergi International, Indonesia discussing on how the Covid-19 pandemic has led organizations to an inevitable surge of digital transformation. Businesses that are more receptive to the IR4.0 will have greater resiliency and ability to speed up their recovery in the face of adversity.

The next Webinar in July will touch upon topics of the pros and cons of managing dispersed work forces, discussing on the future work forces and work places and the business continuity plan for businesses in the New Normal, and in the event of any pandemic-like or disastrous occurrence. While the third Webinar in November, will focus on purely SMEs issues. This series will discuss about “Staying Local and Going Global” which focuses on the strategies to expand businesses globally with minimum capital and resources.
