Thursday 19/08/2021

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The 14th National Conference for Clinical Research (NCCR) was officiated earlier today by the Director-General of Health Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah. The three-day virtual conference, which began yesterday, was organised by the Association of Clinical Registries, Malaysia (ACRM). This prestigious event is supported by the Institute for Clinical Research (ICR) from the National Institutes of Health Malaysia and its strategic partnership with Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM).

Themed “Niche to Norm”, this year’s conference highlights research advancements in precision medicine, clinical trials, and digital health. With 900 delegates attending, the conference features clinical research developments occurring in Malaysia and globally. The conference this year will also focus on the rapid growth research areas and the NCCR programme initiatives such as vaccine development, diagnostics, digital solutions, and adaptive trial designs. Thus far, the 14th NCCR has received almost 200 scientific abstracts eligible for the prestigious Dr. Wu Lien-Teh’s Young Investigator Research Awards, which will be announced on the final day of the conference.

“Continuing research into COVID-19 helps us to further understand the disease to better improve clinical care management and public health measures in curbing the pandemic. The use of digital health especially has proven crucial in our fight with COVID-19,  mainly contact tracing and remote health assessment. To return to the norm of our lives, research continues to play an important role,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah during his officiating speech, prior to also launching the newly designed NCCR logo.

The keynote address was delivered yesterday by the Director-General of Health and followed by the NCCR named lecture series, plenary and symposium sessions. The 14th NCCR lectures and plenaries are showcasing over 20 international and locally renowned researchers including from the University of Dundee, Scotland. The programme sets the platform for medical experts and researchers to present their study findings and gain new collaborative research opportunities. It also includes updates and developments from the research team behind Malaysia’s first COVID-19 vaccine trial by the Institute for Medical Biology Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences as well as a session by Professor Kiat Ruxrungtham from Chulalongkorn University on the development of the institution’s COVID-19 mRNA vaccine.
