SARAWAK CONSOLIDATED INDUSTRIES BERHAD'S CSR EVENT TO SUPPORT COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN PULAU REDANG

Thursday 02/09/2021

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Consolidated Industries Berhad (“SCIB” or the “Company”) subsidiary SCIB Industrialised Building System Sdn Bhd. (“SIBS”) will be co-organising a Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) event with its Joint Venture partner in the Terengganu roadwork maintenance concession, Sasoakai Resources Sdn. Bhd. (“SRSB”) to support the Communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Pulau Redang.

As part of the CSR event, SIBS and SRSB (collectively referred to as “SSJV”) have established a CSR team to aid the asnaf families, who are badly affected by the pandemic in the villages located around Pulau Redang through Charity. The Charity will be organise through the collaboration with Majlis Agama Islam and Adat Melayu Terengganu (“MAIDAM”) as the first of many social contributions and sustainability programs to be organised under the SSJV’s CSR team.

The one-day Charity ceremony is held at Pulau Redang and it is officially launched by both the Chief Executive Officers of the SSJV, together with the representatives from MAIDAM and the Malaysian Public Works Department (“JKR”). The ceremony is attended by 100 asnaf families and donations worth RM10,000 of basic needs were officially distributed by Group Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of SCIB, Rosland bin Othman and YM Syed Ahmad Anas, Chief Executive Officer of SRSB to the families that are present.

SSJV CSR team together with the representatives from all the parties present, taken the initiative to visit the homes of the asnaf families who were unable to attend the CSR event. The visitation allows SSJV to directly distribute the donations to them and at the same time acknowledging their other needs such as school materials, food supplies and medications.

Rosland bin Othman, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of SCIB, said: “We understand our responsibility towards the community and we have taken proactive steps towards supporting the families in Pulau Redang affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The communities in Pulau Redang are heavily impacted by the pandemic, as they are dependent on tourism for their livelihood. Hence, we are also looking for more opportunities to expand our reach on the island to provide for more underprivileged families around the island and also to other existing asnaf families from other parts of Terengganu. ”

“We are confident that this first CSR event will be the stepping stone for future SSJV CSR team’s initiatives in distributing donations to the needy and charity event. SSJV is determined to be a respected and leading entity to facilitate the socio-economic transformation in Malaysia”.
