KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- An additional 25,000 food baskets will be delivered to vulnerable groups who are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic through the Bantu-Bantu Malaysia program initiated by Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew. This program was launched by the Golden Horse Digital Investment Bank (GHDIB) in collaboration with the Persatuan Bantu-Bantu Universal and has distributed 50,000 food baskets around Malaysia since June this year.

The program has assisted 250,000 people, including low-income persons, students from low-income families, B40 veteran military families, police and more. However, a large number of people are still asking for assistance. “In conjunction with this Malaysia Day, GHDIB has decided to add an additional 25,000 food baskets to help our family, as what our Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob,  emphasises, “Keluarga Malaysia”. We wish to assist as much as we can because Malaysians are one big family,” said Tan Sri Lee. Each food basket has enough food for five family members to last for 15 days. More than 20,000 food baskets have been delivered since April last year, and 75,000 food baskets will be distributed this year. A total of 100,000 food baskets will be delivered all across country.

"This is a digitizing charity program for targeted poverty alleviation,” according to Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew, the founder of Golden Horse Digital Investment Bank (GHDIB) and Persatuan Bantu-Bantu Universal. Tan Sri Lee believes that the future of philanthropy lies in blockchain technology. “GHDIB has implemented blockchain technology throughout the entire process from registration to distribution. This is to assure full transparency, accountability, and direct reach to end recipients," he added.

Blockchain technology is a distributed digital ledger that can store any form of data. It is becoming increasingly popular in recent years. The implementation of blockchain technology can ensure that the entire distribution process is traceable, immutable, and reliable while also reducing administrative costs through the automation of data records.

The Bantu-Bantu Malaysia program was initiated to help those severely affected by the pandemic to reduce their financial burden and support their well-being. “Many Malaysians are affected by the pandemic, and it is our social responsibility to help each other to overcome our struggles amid this challenging time,” Tan Sri Lee stated.

“Life has its ups and downs. Don’t give up! Contact us whenever you need help. We will assist any individual regardless of race or religion to the best of our abilities,” he added.
