KUALA KEDAH, Kedah, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The COVID-19 crisis has profoundly affected the economic and livelihood of the fishing community in Kuala Kedah, Kedah. Concerned about the motion waves of change of the fishing community derives from the recent Enhance Movement Control Order (EMCO), Agrobank had recently distributed 600 boxes of food aid through ‘Agrobank dan Komuniti’ programme on a ceremony held on 24 September 2021 (Friday).
This initiative is carried out through a collaboration with the Fishermen’s Association of Kuala Kedah and the National Fishermen’s Association (NEKMAT) to aid those impacted with EMCO. The EMCO has worsened the situation whereby the fishing community has severely loss their earning due to not being able to go to the sea for fish catching activities. The situation has also exacerbated due to the limitation of logistic facilities involving almost all areas in Kuala Kedah district.
Khadijah Iskandar, Covering President/Chief Executive Officer of Agrobank said, “Since Agrobank’s inception, it has been in our DNA of to assist the unserved and underserved communities and in line with our tagline,
‘Sentiasa Di sisi Anda’, we understand the difficulties faced by the fishing community in Kuala Kedah which has impacted their earn of living. Therefore, it is hoped that this initiative may alleviate the burden faced by the fishing community to continue their daily lives."
“The strategic collaborations between Agrobank and Fishermen’s Association of Kuala Kedah and NEKMAT today is a testament of our determination to continue to help the agro-community, especially among the fishermen who are impacted with the current situation by channelling aid in the form of basic food items such as rice, milk, biscuits, sugar and other necessities, with a total contribution of RM49,000.”
The donation was handed out by Kamarul Azlan Razak, Head of Commercial of Agrobank Northern Region to Abdul Hamid Bahari, Chairman of NEKMAT at the Dewan Komuniti Nelayan, Kompleks Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia (LKIM).
