PETRONAS, BAKER HUGHES COLLABORATE TO ENHANCE OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTS

Tuesday 16/11/2021

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- PETRONAS and energy technology company Baker Hughes have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on enhancing operational excellence, technological developments supporting energy transition, education and capability building.

The MoU outlines a framework in which both companies will combine their expertise to optimise sustainable delivery of energy offerings while leveraging on technology and digitalisation, in line with PETRONAS’ sustainability agenda.

The signing marks the continuation of synergy between the companies following an MoU signed in 2018, which brought notable improvements in robotics’ deployment, process safety, and plants’ digitalisation.

The MoU was signed by PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Project Delivery and Technology Bacho Pilong and Baker Hughes Executive Vice President, Regions, Alliances & Enterprise Sales, Uwem Ukpong at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) exhibition on 13 November.

The event was attended by PETRONAS Head of Group Technical Solutions, Front End Engineering, Saiful Azuan Aziz, together with Baker Hughes Key Account Director, Ali Majeed. Also present were PETRONAS President and Group CEO, Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik and Baker Hughes Chairman and CEO, Lorenzo Simonelli.

Datuk Tengku Taufik said, “At PETRONAS, we are committed to take a holistic approach in sustainability, and leverage on innovation to pursue our sustainability agenda which encompasses four lenses – Continued Value Creation, Safeguard the Environment, Positive Social Impact and Responsible Governance. The MoU maps out a spectrum of initiatives that support these lenses with a view to ultimately enable in delivering sustainable energy offerings, while leveraging on technology and digitalisation.

“We believe that creating a sustainable future will require collaboration, partnership and commitment from all.  We are delighted to continue strengthening our partnership with a reputable technology partner like Baker Hughes as we continue on this energy transition journey,” he added.

On energy transition, the collaboration will specifically advance PETRONAS’ ventures in delivering low-carbon energy options, namely in the fields of hydrogen, carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), digital solutions, as well as sustainability and emissions management.

ADIPEC takes place from 15 to 18 November 2021 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC). Hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), ADIPEC is where energy companies and professionals convene to engage and identify the opportunities that will unlock new value in an evolving energy landscape.
