MTA-UITM MOU EXPANDS OPPORTUNITIES FOR FINANCE AND ACTUARY GRADUATES TO EXPLORE CAREER OPTIONS IN TAKAFUL

Tuesday 01/03/2022

KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- An ongoing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) encourages graduates to explore a career in takaful by offering graduates exemption from taking the “Takaful Basic Examination” (TBE). The TBE is a compulsory entry qualification for those who intend to be registered takaful agents. The MoU automatically qualifies a graduate of UiTM’s Diploma in Actuarial Science, Bachelor of Science (Hons) Actuarial Science and Master of Islamic Banking and Finance to become a registered takaful agent, and explore a wide range of career opportunities in the Takaful industry.

MTA’s CEO, Mohd Radzuan Mohamed stated that the continuation of this collaboration in 2022 will support the academic and career development of the student thus creating more robust graduates for the future, the MoU also opens the critical opportunity for internships, attachment programmes or practical training at MTA and its member companies for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

He added that MTA has identified activities under the MoU that are in alignment with the underpinning thrusts and aims of the Malaysian takaful industry’s Value-based Intermediation for Takaful (VBIT) initiative, to create positive values and sustainable impact for society.

Both parties also agreed to encourage takaful protection among UiTM students and this will be a combined effort to educate students on the importance of Takaful protection as a tool for managing life risks. “We sincerely hope that this collaboration will provide us an open path for the industry to educate students to be better prepared to face their financial risks in the future and to have more financial literacy activities between the university community and the industry and take the opportunity to introduce the Perlindungan Tenang Voucher Programme ”said Radzuan.

Perlindungan Tenang is takaful and insurance product that meet the needs of underserved segments, particularly lower-income population.  It provides basic protection plans that are affordable, easily accessible, provides good protection value, easy to understand as well as easy to purchase and to make claims.  Visit https://www.malaysiantakaful.com.my/family-takaful/perlindungan-tenang for more information.

Professor Ts. Dr Haryani Haron, Dean, Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences UiTM, welcomes this continued collaboration with MTA saying that “The MoU is a platform for collaboration on initiatives and activities to promote the learning and development of Takaful between the two bodies. It brings significant benefits to students, graduates and the teaching faculty, bridging the gap between academia and industry players. The ongoing exchange of information, as well as events, sessions and meetings greatly assist the university to support critical developments in education and research, and more importantly, support students’ development.”

Previous education programmes include MTA Webinar Talk on Re-Takaful with Dr Paul Rajan, Assistant General Manager Underwriting, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Am Berhad and MTA Talk in 2019/ 2020 for students from UiTM’s Centre of Actuarial Sciences as part of the collaboration’s experience-sharing and knowledge-transfer initiative.
