FWD SpecialMed offers two yearly-renewable coverage options with annual limit of up to RM100,000 Takaful provider’s first online medical plan that prioritises the needs and addresses key challenges faced by people with learning disabilitiesKUALA LUMPUR,
April 5 (Bernama) --
FWD Takaful Berhad (“FWD Takaful”) today announced the launch of
FWD SpecialMed, an online medical plan tailored to prioritise the needs and resolve key challenges faced by people with mild to moderate learning disabilities when obtaining medical care.
Through an in-depth study of this segment, FWD Takaful discovered how medical care can be both difficult to obtain and a stressful experience for most people with learning disabilities. Many takaful providers or insurers have strict exclusion policies, even for people with mild disabilities. While public healthcare is available, an ill or injured person with learning disabilities may find the waiting times, busy environment and the inability to meet a familiar doctor particularly challenging.
Salim Majid Zain, FWD Takaful’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “
The availability and affordability of private medical coverage with relevant benefits for people with disabilities are key challenges for the disability community. FWD SpecialMed is one of the many ways we plan to address this, because we believe that giving priority to the needs of people with mild to moderate learning disabilities is not special treatment, but fair treatment, given the extra challenges they may face with medical care.”FWD SpecialMed offers two yearly-renewable coverage options, with annual limits of up to RM50,000 and RM100,000 respectively, with no lifetime limit. It includes the following benefits:
1. Medical Care: includes hospitalisation, surgical and outpatient coverage
2. Post Care: includes post-hospitalisation expenses and a subsidy of up to RM2,000 for rehabilitation and therapy for a limited time only
3. Extra Care: RM5,000 aid for funeral costs if the certificate owner is the guardian to a person with a learning disability, as well as a subsidy of up to RM800 (limited time only) for the person with a learning disability to attend job training or vocational courses
The plan is offered to people with mild to moderate learning disabilities aged 5 to 55 years old, or to a parent or legal guardian aged at least 17 years old. The plan is renewed yearly until the person with learning disabilities reaches 71 years of age.
In addition, customers who participate in the plan this year will be eligible for FWD Care, a complimentary recovery plan that connects customers with a dedicated nurse who will provide guidance and access to a range of support services like counselling, local medical transportation and home nursing care assistance, in the event an eligible medical claim is made and approved.
FWD SpecialMed is the second product designed by FWD Takaful for people with learning disabilities with the first being FWD SpecialCare Direct (
