AXA Affin Insurance Malaysia pledged to plant 400 trees in Lower Kinabatangan, Sabah to enrich Malaysia’s biodiversity. In collaboration with Animal Projects & Environmental Education Malaysia (APE Malaysia), the tree-planting activity will support Sabah’s Corridor of Life project, which involved restoration of the land around Kinabatangan.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 (Bernama) -- AXA Affin General Insurance Berhad (AAGI) and AXA AFFIN Life Insurance Berhad (AALI) pledged to plant 400 trees in Lower Kinabatangan, Sabah, as part of its commitment in enriching Malaysia’s biodiversity. The reforestation effort by AXA was launched during its AXA Week for Good, a full week of activities dedicated to sustainability that is held group wide, annually.

The tree-planting activity is carried out through a collaboration with Animal Projects & Environmental Education (APE Malaysia). The collaboration will further support Sabah’s Corridor of Life project, which involved restoration of the land around Kinabatangan that has been converted for various economic activities such as logging and development of agriculture.

Emmanuel Nivet, Country Manager of AXA Malaysia said that the initiative is another milestone for AXA Malaysia towards upholding the Group’s commitment to act on climate and biodiversity loss since 2018.

“AXA is committed to protect forests as areas of high biodiversity value, and we view the collaboration with APE as a natural extension of our cause in preserving Mother Earth. Amid our mission to raise awareness towards climate and biodiversity, we are also glad that our participation in this project also resonates ‘Greening Malaysia’, a target set by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, in planting 100 million trees nationwide from 2021-2025”, Emmanuel added.

Members of local community who are a part of APE’s tree planting squad will be involved in planting 400 saplings pledged by AXA, which will be carried out in July. A mixture of flowering and domestic fruit-bearing trees, fast growing pioneers, swampland specialists and hardwood trees will be planted to further enrich the biodiversity and encourage a healthier forest for the wildlife.

Meanwhile at AXA’s headquarters and branches, AXA Week for Good offers an array of programmes to promote two sustainability pillars―climate change and biodiversity, as well as inclusive protection. This year from 20th -25th June 2022, AXA’s employees worldwide have joined forces in various virtual and field activities by offering their time and skills towards supporting the sustainability pillars.

Kelvin Wong, Officer-in-Charge of AXA AFFIN Life Insurance Berhad said that the week-long event has brought new perspective and raised awareness on preserving the environment.

“From informative virtual seminars on managing waste to fun virtual treasure hunt activity, AXA Week for Good has left a positive impact among our employees and created greater interest in contributing towards the environment. Our donation drive has also provided employees with an opportunity to help the less privileged and give back to the community”, added Kelvin.
