KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- YB Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin, Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) celebrated the global release of ‘Don’t Look at the Demon’ - a one-of-a-kind local horror film featuring Hollywood actors and actresses that will be making its way to cinemas in over 20 countries. ‘Don’t Look at the Demon’ is also the first Malaysian film to be screened in the United States of America, paving the way for international success in future local productions.

The film follows the story of a group of American paranormal investigators that have traveled to Fraser’s Hill, Malaysia, to investigate supernatural occurrences in a house that was built in the early 1970s. To their surprise, the crew got more than they bargained for as they dived deeper into the investigation and uncover dark secrets about the house that relates back to forbidden ancient Thai rituals.

The addition of the Hollywood stars allowed for the film to be relatable to the vast majority of people in the world and generate global interest in its unique approach to portraying an American perspective of traditional Asian folklore.

Rightfully so, the film has captivated audiences from all across the globe and will be screened in more than 20 countries including - Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Mongolia, Cambodia, USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Poland, etc. Besides that, the film is also setting the bar for local productions as it makes its debut in America, making it the first Malaysian film to ever be played in American cinemas, and more astonishingly, it will be screened in more than 250 cinemas within the North American region alone.

YB Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin, Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) said, “This film provides an opportunity for people from other countries to learn and understand the cultures, traditions, and tourist attractions in Malaysia, which in turn may contribute to the improvement of the tourism sector. Now that we have entered the American market, we can strive for reaching new heights by aiming to obtain awards such as the Oscars, Emmy, and so forth, in the near future.”

Brando Lee, Director and Producer of ‘Don’t Look at the Demon’ said, “With the global release of ‘Don’t Look at the Demon’ I hope to inspire local producers to reach for the stars and keep pushing forward to represent Malaysia on an international scale. The release of this film is not just my success, but it is the success of all of us in Malaysia, and I am extremely proud to set this benchmark and bring pride to our country. ‘Don’t Look at the Demon’ will forever be an emblem to remind Malaysia that no goal is too big if you set your minds to it.”
