Malaysia’s largest solar PV power plant to reduce up to 120,000 tonnes of C02 per annum

MARANG, Terengganu, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Coara Marang Sdn Bhd on 26 October 2022 celebrated the launch of one of Malaysia’s largest solar PV (photovoltaic) power plants. The launch ceremony was jointly officiated by YB Dr. Haji Mamad Puteh, Terengganu Infrastructure, Public Facilities, Utilities and Green Technology Committee Chairman; Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Mohamad Razif Abdul Mubin, Deputy Secretary General (Energy), Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources; Heidi Geibel, Economic Affairs Officer representing His Excellency Dr. Peter Blomeyer, German Ambassador; together with Susan Hemming, Executive Director of Coara Solar Sdn Bhd and Anton Milner, Managing Director of ib vogt GmbH.

Coara Marang Solar Project is a special purpose vehicle co-owned by Coara Solar Sdn Bhd and its German partner, ib vogt GmbH, and is the largest project co-developed in the region to date. Coara Marang was one of the winners of the LSS3 competitive bidding scheme organised by Energy Commission of Malaysia in 2019 to design, build and operate a solar PV energy power plant.

The plant site covers an area of 245 hectares and is one of the largest solar PV plants in Malaysia to date. The plant will achieve maximum energy production efficiency up to 116 MWp, with an estimated delivery of 230 GWh of clean energy per year and will help improve environmental sustainability by reducing up to 120,000 tonnes of C02 per annum.

Executive Director of Coara Solar Sdn Bhd, Susan Hemming, thanked all the parties involved in making the project a success.

“We believe our expertise in renewable energy technology will help to maximise the clean energy potential that Malaysia offers together with its abundant natural resources. Above and beyond diversifying energy generation and reducing dependence on oil and fossil fuels, Coara Marang is also producing solar energy at a most competitive rate. This aspires us to be the benchmark for any upcoming similar projects and promote Malaysia’s international standing as a key player in the RE sector,” she said.
