KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- The Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM), held an The Building Bridges Series Focus Group Discussion 2 Upholding Human Dignity For Peaceful Coxistence In Malaysia: Principles And Pre-Requisites, at IKIM's Grand Hall.
The concept of human dignity highlights the importance of recognizing that human beings possess a special value intrinsic to their humanity. It abhors injustice and any forms of discrimination towards other human beings based on religion, race, colour, gender, language and nationality. Upholding human dignity is central to the efforts of creating and sustaining peaceful coexistence in a society. The sharing of idea and views by the invited scholars in these two programmes is important as it will allow rooms for elaborative and knowledge-based discussions on the topic and to better understand the concepts of human dignity and peaceful coexistence from the multicultural perspectives.
This discussion featured 3 presenter to comment on the topic based on their respective expertise Dr. Mohd Farid Mohd Shahran, Director Centre for the Study of Shariah, Law and Politics IKIM, Mr KV Soon International Network of Engaged Buddhist (INEB), Mrs. Gowri PS Thangaya Former Honorary Secretary General, MCCBCHST and summary of FDG, Mr. Eugene Yapp UID Sejahtera and Dr. Nik Roskiman Abd Samad Senior Fellow Centre for the Study of Shariah, Law and Politics IKIM as as moderator.
The objectives of the group discussion is to explain and examine the significant role of religion in peace-making and the importance of upholding human dignity in a multicultural society, to analyze the various religious traditions and perspectives on human dignity and unpack from the various the resources that would effectively contribute to mutual peaceful co-existence toward a just, harmonious and prosperous society and to identify current challenges faced in the aspects of creating a harmonious and peaceful society in the context of Malaysia.
