PENANG, June 19 (Bernama) -- Deputy Minister of Finance II, Yang Berhormat Tuan Steven Sim Chee Keong, officiated the
My Money & Me workshop, Malaysian Financial Planning Council’s (MFPC) signature programme held at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Pulau Pinang on 17 June 2023. The programme aimed to elevate financial planning education among Malaysians from all walks of life, empowering them with essential knowledge and skills for effective financial management right up till their retirement years. MFPC conducts these programmes free of charge throughout the year at various venues in the country and online.
The event highlighted four key pillars of financial management: Asset Management, Asset Protection, Asset Accumulation, and Asset Distribution. Highly regarded speakers from MFPC, Bank Negara Malaysia, Securities Commission Malaysia, and the Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia shared their expertise, offering participants invaluable insights and practical guidance. Participants gained much-needed practical strategies and knowledge to make informed financial decisions and achieve their financial goals.
This event was supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Majlis Belia Malaysia. The programme was also supported by MFPC’s fintech partner, Perfect10 Financial Intelligence (P10). P10 serves as the official e-learning platform and provided complimentary exhibition services at the session. Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) kindly provided the venue for this event.
To further elevate the impact of this event, strategic partners included Securities Commission Malaysia, InvestSmart®, Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia (FIMM), Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA), and Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia (LHDNM). This support and collaboration served as a testament to the importance of financial awareness and the collective effort to promote sound financial practices among Malaysians.

During his opening remarks, Yang Berhormat Tuan Steven Sim Chee Keong emphasized the critical need for financial management awareness to ensure good financial health. "Young people today need to take their long-term financial savings plans seriously to provide for their life after retirement. The programme today is a commendable initiative by national financial agencies and organizations, aiming to provide targeted and general financial planning education programmes."
Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC)The Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC) was set up in in 2004 with the objective of promoting nationwide development and enhancement of the financial planning profession. We conduct professional programmes leading to the Registered Financial Planner and Shariah Registered Financial Planner designations. Both qualifications are approved by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) as a prerequisite to apply for a Financial Adviser’s Licence and a Financial Adviser’s Representative Licence. The qualifications are also approved by Securities Commission Malaysia for the Capital Market Services Licence (CMSL) application in light of the introduction of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007.Our mission has extended to include raising the financial literacy of all Malaysians by being at the forefront of efforts to provide financial education to Malaysians from all walks of life.
