KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) -- The UMW Group’s automotive sales increased by 28% in May 2023 with delivery of 32,703 units compared with 25,641 units registered in April 2023, as both UMW Toyota Motor (“UMWT”) and UMW’s associate company, Perodua continue to fulfil its outstanding bookings.
 
UMWT registered 8,004 units in May 2023, 18% higher than the 6,767 units delivered in April 2023.  Year-to-date May 2023, UMWT registered 39,990 units, representing an 8% growth compared with the 36,972 units registered in the corresponding period of 2022.  As of May 2023, UMWT’s market share stood at 13.3%.  To refresh its model line-up, UMWT introduced the all-new Lexus RX 350 on 17 May, which has received encouraging orders.  To further strengthen its order book, UMWT has rolled out “Toyota Extra Mile” sales campaign for June 2023.  It is offering special promotions as well as the Toyota EZ Beli financing option for the purchase of selected Toyota models.   
 
Perodua’s sales surged to 24,699 units in May 2023, an improvement of 31% compared with the 18,874 units delivered in April 2023, outperforming the total industry volume (“TIV”) growth.  The strong sales in May was attributed to the improvement in production as well as enhancements to Perodua’s sales operations.  Year-to-date May 2023, Perodua registered 122,137 units, 15% higher than the 106,179 units delivered in the same period of 2022.  For the first five months of 2023, Perodua’s market share increased to 40.6% from the 39.1% recorded for the full-year 2022.  Moving forward, Perodua is expected to continue to fulfil its outstanding bookings which continues to remain healthy.
