ISLAMIC BANKING & FINANCE INSTITUTE MALAYSIA (IBFIM) KICKS OFF REFORESTATION PROGRAMME TO CREATE A GREENER MALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- The Islamic Banking & Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) today kicked off its Reforestation Programme (IRP) at Taman Eko-Rimba, Bukit Nanas to help create a more green and sustainable future for Malaysia. IRP aims to plant 100 hardwood trees in Sungai Besi Forest Reserve and Taman Eko-Rimba, Bukit Nanas, Kuala Lumpur. This initial launch involves the participation of Affin Islamic Bank Berhad, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad, Maybank Islamic Berhad, and MyAngkasa Amanah Berhad.
Dato’ Indera Mohd Ridza Awang, Director General of Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia (JPSM) welcomed IBFIM’s collaborative initiaitve with JPSM. He said that “IBFIM’s efforts is in line with, and supports, the Greening Malaysia agenda through the 100 Million Tree-Planting Campaign 2021-2025.” In his launching speech, he shared that, “as of 12 July 2023, a total of 63.6 million trees have successfully been planted across the country under the campaign, which includes over one thousand tree species. This program contributes to the goals of SDG 15, and the planting data, as well as information on trees, participants (both corporates and individuals) related to this program can be accessed and viewed through a dedicated website (www.100jutapokok.gov.my) or the “Penghijauan Malaysia” application. In fact, the public can also contribute information on their planting activities to the project, which once verified, can contribute to the achivement of the targets.”
Yusry Yusoff, the Chief Executive Officer of IBFIM highlighted IRP as a significant step towards preserving the well-being of the environment and ensuring a sustainable future. He shared that IBFIM, as a life-long learning institute, emphasises the principles of sustainability, well-being, and Ihsan as essential for achieving harmonious coexistence with nature. “Through our collective efforts, we hope we can make a difference in reducing carbon emissions, minimising ecological footprints, and addressing the impacts of climate change”, he adds.
Today’s ceremony saw the planting of a Chengal, Meranti Seraya, Tualang, Merbau and Balau Tree, each on behalf of AFFIN Group, Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM), IBFIM, Joint Committee on Climate Change (JC3), and Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA).
