KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- PIKOM continues to recognise excellence in innovation and outstanding contributions to the development of the technology industry in Malaysia at the PIKOM Unicorn Tech Awards Night held on 27 July 2023 in Kuala Lumpur. The event was graced by YB Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital, and close to 1000 industry representatives.
In his welcoming remark, PIKOM Chairman Ong Chin Seong, congratulated all the award recipients and highlighted PIKOM’s commitment to continuously strive to be the VOICE of the Industry. “Be it for policy and regulatory change, addressing the issues that can impact the digital economy, talent gap, industry pain points, business growth, ESG, and other issues pertinent to the industry. We work with various Ministries and Agencies as well as other players in the Ecosystem to benefit our members, benefit our industry, and benefit our country.,” he stated.
During her opening speech, YB Teo took the opportunity to call out to the industry to come together to create more awareness regarding cyber-security and take steps towards strengthening their approach towards data protection. “This is critical as we foresee Malaysia becoming a digital hub of Asia but more importantly, we must protect the Rakyat from more losses resulting from future cyber-attacks.,” she said.
This year, not only recipients of the PIKOM Unicorn Tech Awards 2023 were recognised, but the winners from MSC Malaysia APICTA Awards 2022 and PIKOM Academy Training Partners were also given accolades.
Under the PIKOM Unicorn Tech Awards, 8 Chapter Excellence Awards, 7 Special Recognition Awards, 6 Scale-Up Tech Icon Awards, and 5 main category awards were given out. The recipients of the main awards are; Huawei Malaysia for Member Excellence Award; Lawrence Leang Wah Choon for CIO Excellence Award; Raymond Devadass for Technopreneur Excellence Award; Tenaga Nasional Berhad for Tech Organisation Excellence Award and finally Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi, Chairman of Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation for Technology Personality Excellence Award.
MSC Malaysia - Asia-Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA) is an annual Awards challenge that recognizes the outstanding achievements of individuals, students, SMEs, innovators, and entrepreneurs in the ICT industry. 14 winners and merit recipients of the MSC Malaysia APICTA 2022 Awards were recognised at the event.
Among the winners are Genting Malaysia Berhad, Innergia Labs, ABS Software International Sdn. Bhd., NexMind AI Sdn. Bhd., BSMART System Solutions Sdn. Bhd. and Asia Pacific University.
The night ended with the recognition of 10 PIKOM Academy Training Partners who have collaborated with PIKOM to deliver excellent training content in-line with current industry needs.
