KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) welcomed Dr. Erik Lindquist, a distinguished Fulbright Program representative and Professor of Biology and Environmental Science from Messiah University, USA. With a lifelong passion for the natural world, Dr. Lindquist’s visit was an opportunity to MCKL to glean insights from his extensive experience. Dr. Lindquist’s early fascination with ecosystems led him to a career in Environmental Science, highlighted by his notable work with endangered amphibians. His expertise was showcased in an interview with Sir David Attenborough on BBC’s ‘Life in Cold Blood’.

During his six-week stay in Malaysia, Dr. Lindquist conducted lectures, workshops, forum, and training sessions. Renowned for his innovative teaching methods, he emphasized creating active learning environments that engage all senses to foster a deeper understanding of Environmental Sciences.

A Fulbright Scholar Forum was held on 17 June 2023 at MCKL and Dr. Lindquist addressed the decline of amphibians, specifically the critically endangered harlequin toads. His insights into the 25-year crisis emphasized the urgency of conservation efforts to maintain ecosystem balance. The forum also featured Dr. Yong Ding Li, an expert on biodiversity and species conservation, discussing migratory birds and wetlands in Southeast Asia.

Empowering the MCKL Community, Dr. Lindquist’s unique teaching approach prioritizes experiential learning. He engaged with MCKL students during a field trip to Taman Alam, Selangor, sharing his experiences, and collaborating with fellow educator Mr. Ng Di Lin. These experiences deepened students’ ecological understanding and appreciation.

At Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International), Dr. Lindquist’s talk sparked students’ curiosity for biology and Environmental Science. He encouraged networking, collaboration with experts, and staying updated with technological advancements to drive future opportunities.

His visit left a lasting impact, inspiring a renewed commitment to ecological conservation. As the MCKL community and beyond absorb his wisdom, they are driven to protect Mother Earth’s biodiversity for generations to come.
