PETALING JAYA, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) and Malaysian National Shippers’ Council (MNSC) organised Global Shippers’ Roundtable - Navigating the Waves of Unpredictability: Building Shippers’ Resilience for the Next Normal at One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya, on 5 September 2023.

“MPC is very pleased to collaborate with the MNSC in organising this year’s Global Shippers’ Roundtable. This event is an important platform to deliberate on key challenges and strategies to drive productivity and competitiveness in the sector. We are honoured to have YB Tuan Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport as a keynote speaker for this event”, according to Zahid Ismail, Deputy Director General, MPC.

The roundtable with a theme “Navigating the Waves of Unpredictability: Building Shippers’ Resilience for the Next Normal” served as a key platform for dialogue with the captains of industry on the development of sustainable strategies and policies for efficient movement of goods across borders.

The event addressed issues of economic importance, industry concerns, and adapting to the evolving global economic and business ecosystem for the next normal. It was also a great networking opportunity for all participants.

Guest speakers shared best practices of improving the overall efficiency and competitiveness of shippers in international trade. Special address was delivered by Tan Sri Dato’ Soh Thian Lai, President, Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM). The main guest speaker, Prof. Dr. Ong Kian Ming, Program Director, Taylor’s University shared his thoughts on Future-Proofing Malaysia’s Trade.

Three panel sessions were conducted throughout the event, with important topics such as what shippers’ should know to mitigate post pandemic challenges and leveraging on multimodal logistics to facilitate cross border regional trade. Guest speakers for these panel sessions were industry and thought leaders from Malaysia and abroad, with representatives from the Hong Kong Shippers’ Council, American Association of Exporters and Importers (AAEI), Logistics Productivity Nexus (LPN) and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department. Guest speakers shared their experiences on trade and logistics.

During the event, MPC launched the export and import procedures in Malaysia Guidebook. The document serves as a useful guideline for players in the logistics industry.

The roundtable event supported Malaysia’s Ekonomi MADANI aspirations to drive the productivity of the nation, particularly for the logistics sector. In turn, this will facilitate higher competitiveness for a more robust and sustainable economic development, to enable businesses to prosper, and the rakyat to enjoy a better quality of life. Given its significance to the economy, the logistics sector has huge potential to generate highly productive economic activities that will benefit industry players, the employees and the nation as a whole, despite challenges in domestic and global economies.
