The run aims to raise breast cancer awareness and supports women who are battling breast cancer

MELAKA, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Mahkota Medical Centre’s (MMC) signature event – the Mahkota Charity Run, is the most highly anticipated annual charity event in Melaka. The last Mahkota Charity Run was in 2018, and this event has been temporarily stopped due to the pandemic. Today, MMC is proud to announce Mahkota Charity Run is set to return in 2023 with the theme “Breast Cancer Heroes Run”. The run will be held on 8 October 2023, 6am at Mahkota Medical Centre.

United for Good: Widening Our Impact Through Outreach and Fundraising

Breast cancer is still the leading cause of cancer deaths among Malaysian women. It is estimated that over nine individuals die of breast cancer every day, amounting to 3,500 deaths annually. In conjunction with October Breast Cancer Awareness Month, MMC is organising the 5th Mahkota Charity Run to bring together the community to run for a cause, create awareness for breast cancer and support all the brave women who are battling breast cancer.

MMC, one of the four finalists in the prestigious Flagship Malaysia Tourism Hospital, has recently been reaccredited with the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation again and is also the first hospital in Malaysia accredited with Breast Cancer Clinical Care Programme Certification (CCPC). In line with the breast cancer theme, all the proceeds collected from Mahkota Charity Run 2023 will be channelled to our charity partners, the National Cancer Society Malaysia and Seck Kia Eenh Cancer Fund Melaka, non-governmental organisations.

Mahkota Charity Run 2023 has two categories, a 3 km fun run and a 10 km men's and women's open, and is targeting 3000 runners to join this year. During the actual day event, the confirmed VIPs were YB Datuk Mohd Ridhwan, NCSM Melaka Chapter Advisor, and YB Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, Exco Pelancongan, Warisan, Seni, dan Budaya Negeri Melaka. In addition, there is a pink vehicle parade, Zumba dance, photo booth, Milo truck, Mamee truck, mascot appearance, a performance by breast cancer survivors, a lucky draw, and more.

Strong Public Support for Cancer Community

"The Mahkota Charity Run is a chance for us to come together as a community and show our support for those affected by breast cancer. I encourage everyone to participate and help us make a difference." said Teo Chin Yee, Deputy CEO of Mahkota Medical Centre. "This year's run is especially important as we are raising awareness and funds for breast cancer patients. We hope to see many people come out to support this important cause." “This collaboration between Mahkota Medical Centre and Siemens Healthineers demonstrates our commitment to enhancing women's health and towards a world without fear of cancer. By raising awareness and encouraging regular screening, we hope to pave the way for earlier diagnosis of breast cancer and better treatment outcomes.” said Jan Tiedermann, Finance Director, Siemens Healthineers, Malaysia.

The charity run would not be possible without the generous support of sponsors and partners listed in the appendix. Their support will help us to raise awareness and funds with more than 100 lucky draw prizes.

• Gold Sponsors: Mahkota Parade and Wellness Concept
