KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Five buildings certified under Malaysia’s international green benchmark Green Building Index (GBI) were among the 11 National Energy Awards (NEA) 2023 winners in the Energy Efficiency building category. GBI had last year also dominated the same category with four certified buildings declared as winners of NEA 2022.
Menara PJH (GBI Gold rated) which is on its second run at the NEA this year, has been recognised as runner-up for the Large Green Building Award while IOI City Mall Phase 1 (GBI Certified rated) has been awarded the Merit Award under the same category.
Spritzer ASRS Warehouse in Perak which achieved the GBI Certified rating is awarded the Merit Award in the Zero Energy Building. PJ Midtown (Retail & Office) (GBI Gold-rated) is the runner-up for the EE Designed Building award. Tzu Chi International School has earned the distinction of being crowned the winner in two categories - Energy Efficiency category for Large Green Building award and runner-up for EE Designed Building award.
Tzu Chi International School then went on to represent Malaysia in the ASEAN Energy Award (AEA) 2023 which was held in Bali, Indonesia on 25 August 2023. The GBI Silver-rated building bagged the first prize for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices, under the Green Building Awards (Large category). This recognition celebrates the international school's fusion of educational excellence with eco-conscious design, inspiring young minds to learn and lead in a world where sustainability is paramount. Menara PJH was named runner-up in the same category and Spritzer ASRS Warehouse won Merit for the Zero Energy Building category.
Malaysia participated in AEA 2023 with a total of 23 submissions, achieving success by clinching 12 awards in three distinct categories - the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices Award, the Renewable Energy Project Award, and the Clean Coal Award.
GBI Board Chairman, Ar. Abu Zarim bin Abu Bakar, expressed delight in seeing GBI projects thriving on such prominent platforms. He reaffirmed that GBI will continue to lead, inspire and facilitate the transition towards a greener and sustainable built environment in Malaysia.
“We are immensely proud and delighted to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our Green Building Index (GBI) projects that have been named winners in the National Energy Awards (NEA) 2023 and ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA) 2023.
“The National Energy Awards and ASEAN Energy Awards have long been a platform to acknowledge outstanding contributions to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. To witness GBI-rated projects securing these awards and recognition is a true reflection of the caliber of sustainability-focused projects that our community is fostering,” said Ar. Abu Zarim, who is also President of Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (Malaysian Institute of Architects).
