MYGAS 2023 SETS TO EXPLORE THE REVITALISED ROLE OF NATURAL GAS IN THE ENERGY TRANSITION
Friday 10/11/2023
Industry leaders set to ignite discussions at MyGAS 2023, unveiling the revitalised role of Natural Gas in the Energy Transition
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) proudly presents the highly anticipated Malaysian Gas Symposium 2023 (MyGAS 2023), which is to take place on 16 November 2023 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. MyGAS 2023 held under the theme "Revitalising the Role of Gas in Energy Transition," will serve as an ideal platform for policymakers and industry leaders from Malaysia, the ASEAN region and globally to come together and discuss pragmatic pathways for the Malaysian gas industry. The event will be officiated by YBhg. Datuk Yatimah Sarjiman, the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy, who will deliver a keynote Address.
“Today, natural gas is the single largest fuel in the total primary energy mix constituting 43%. The recently launched National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) indicated natural gas to remain the single largest primary energy at 56% in 2050. We are seeing the role of gas revitalised and emphasised by the Government to ensure long-term energy security for the nation. This aspiration is in line with MyGAS 2023 which is designed for in-depth discussions on the enhanced role of gas in the global context of energy transition and specifically for Malaysia. With the world facing complex energy challenges, the symposium aims to explore natural gas’s role in addressing key priorities such as energy security, affordability and socio-economic progress. This symposium will conclude the energy conference in Malaysia for this year which has put major highlights on the pivotal role of natural gas as the cleanest source of fossil fuel.” Abdul Aziz Othman, President of Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) commented.
The third edition of MyGAS 2023 will feature a distinguished lineup of panellists including renowned industry leaders and policymakers. One of the highlights is the Keynote Presentation on National Energy Transition by Dr Afiza Idris, Director of the Energy Division from the Ministry of Economy and also a high-level Plenary Panel Executive Dialogue, featuring YBhg. Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, Chairman of Gas Malaysia Berhad, a member of MGA, YBhg. Dato' Abdul Razak Majid, Chairman of Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Andrea Stegher, the Vice President of the International Gas Union (IGU). Other interactive panel sessions will include representatives from MGA members such as PETRONAS Gas Energy & Trading, Shell, PTTEP, ExxonMobil and various international gas industry players including the Indonesian Gas Society (IGS) and Rystad Energy.
“We believe that this symposium will be a catalyst for pragmatic discussions and collaborations that will shape the future of the Malaysian gas industry. Being indigenous to Malaysia, natural gas plays an important role in driving our country’s socio-economic development as proven in the past and present. The industry is expected to contribute nearly RM400 billion to public finances over the next decade. This will contribute positively towards achieving the aspirations of the Ekonomi Madani blueprint. By bringing together policymakers and industry players, we can collectively develop and address the challenges to ensure a secure, affordable and sustainable energy for Malaysia."
"We warmly invite industry players, stakeholders and all those interested in the future of energy to join us at MyGAS 2023. Industry’s participation will be instrumental in shaping policies, fostering innovation and driving energy transition towards pragmatic pathways for the Malaysian gas industry.
