KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- Berjaya Sompo Insurance Berhad (Berjaya Sompo) is excited to award the BSIB Rising Star Scholarship 2023 amounting to a total of RM20,000 per annum to two (2) deserving students for the year 2023 under the public category. BSIB has also awarded the same scholarship to one student under the internal-employee category in July 2023. The recipients were selected based on their academic performance, aspirations, family background, and efforts to improve their family’s financial situation.

“BSIB Rising Star Scholarship 2023 is an inaugural initiative for Berjaya Sompo. However, we are looking to make this a continuous initiative for many years to come. We believe that education is key to a better future, and we are committed to making education accessible to all, especially those who are underprivileged,” said Mr Tan Sek Kee, Chief Executive Officer of Berjaya Sompo.

BSIB Rising Star Scholarship Programme is an initiative under Berjaya Sompo’s ESG Social Pillar, designed to empower and support outstanding young minds in their journey towards academic success and career. This scholarship programme is a testament to Berjaya Sompo’s commitment to fostering excellence in education and nurturing the next generation of leaders.

The recipients, Soong Xin Hui and Lee Le Bei are both first-year students at Universiti Malaya, studying English Literature and Law, respectively. Both will receive RM10,000 annually throughout the period of their studies, subject to their academic performance.

Soong Xin Hui expressed, "It has always been my dream to become an English teacher, as I believe English is a language that connects people. The BSIB Rising Star Scholarship will significantly alleviate my family's financial burden as I pursue my tertiary education."

“My family and I are very grateful for the BSIB Rising Star Scholarship as it will help me achieve my career goals of becoming a lawyer,” said Lee Le Bei.

The BSIB Rising Star Scholarship Programme which offers up to RM20,000 per annum per person aims to support students who demonstrate exceptional talent, ambition, and potential in their chosen field of study. The programme will provide selected individuals with the opportunity to receive financial assistance and an internship opportunity with Berjaya Sompo.

The scholarship programme is open to students with outstanding academic achievements, co-curriculum and leadership qualities, and a strong aspiration to contribute back to society. BSIB is inviting applications from students across a variety of disciplines. The BSIB Rising Star Scholarship Programme will be open for its 2024 applications on 1^st January 2024.
