Official opening of new lubricants plant, UMW Lubetech Sdn. Bhd. was launched by YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Menteri Besar Selangor, with UMW Holdings Berhad Officer-in-Charge, En. Megat Shahrul Azmir (on-the-left) and En. Anas Nasrun Mohd Osman, Group Director, Manufacturing & Engineering Division of UMW (on-the-right)KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- UMW Lubetech Sdn. Bhd. (“UMW Lubetech”), an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of UMW Holdings Berhad, today officially opened its new and automated lubricants blending plant in Pulau Indah Industrial Park, Klang. The plant has a capacity to produce 60 million litres of lubricants per annum, replacing the old plant in Shah Alam which had a 35-million litre capacity.
The opening ceremony of the new lubricants plant was officiated by YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, the Menteri Besar of Selangor. Also present were senior Selangor state government officials and the Board of Directors and management of UMW Holdings Berhad.
The plant has a built-up area of 3.2 acres and sits on a piece of land measuring 6.9 acres. Construction work started in March 2022 with a total investment cost of RM67 million for the land, building and equipment. The plant is equipped with IR4.0-ready processes to enhance efficiency and competitiveness as well as accredited laboratory facilities. The warehouse at the plant is also equipped with automated racking system. The production floor has a total of 14 filling lines and commercial production commenced in April 2023. The plant has a workforce of more than 200 employees.
In line with the UMW Group’s Sustainability Roadmap, the new UMW Lubetech plant is GreenRe Gold certified. Solar panels shall be completely installed at the plant by the first quarter of 2024. It also has facilities for rainwater harvesting, electric vehicle charging, waste composting and energy efficient lighting.
UMW Lubetech produces a variety of products at the plant under its in-house brand GRANTT. GRANTT’s full range of products include Passenger Car Motor Oil (“PCMO”), Motorcycle Oil (“MCO”), Diesel Engine Oil (“DEO”), Automatic Transmission Fluid (“ATF”), agricultural oil, marine oil, greases, radiator coolant, brake fluids, bio-hydraulic lubricants and food grade grease. UMW Lubetech also does toll blending for OEM customers including Toyota, Perodua and Modenas.
In conjunction with the opening of the new facility, GRANTT Lubricants introduced attractive and improved new packaging for its products to further strengthen its brand image. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing its competitiveness as well as providing a more comprehensive and appealing selection to meet the evolving needs of consumers.
Anas Nasrun Mohd Osman, Group Director, Manufacturing & Engineering Division of UMW said, “We are excited with the opening of this new plant, which has increased our blending capacity by 71% compared with the previous plant. The new plant will allow us to increase production of all types of lubricants, penetrate the bio-lubricants market segment as well as expand our toll blending business, in line with the expected increase in demand for lubricants. We are also revitalising our export initiatives with the focus to penetrate the ASEAN markets through UMW’s establishments in Vietnam, Singapore and Myanmar.”
