KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) recently collaborated with Pusat Pungutan Zakat - Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (PPZ - MAIWP) to present financial aid to selected accountancy students from underprivileged backgrounds. The presentation ceremony to the ANAK-ANAK BAITULMAL MAIWP was attended by the Pusat Pungutan Zakat - Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (PPZ - MAIWP) Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Operations), Encik Mohammed Hassan, Puan Rohayu Yusoff and Encik Mohamad Amzari Aziz, both Acting Chief Executive Officer of Kolej Profesional Baitulmal Kuala Lumpur.

“This is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by the MIA that is aligned with our sustainability agenda to champion talent development and social well-being, thereby advancing our overarching nation building purpose,” stated Dr. Wan Ahmad Rudirman Wan Razak, Chief Executive Officer, MIA in his welcome remarks at the aid presentation ceremony.

In total, the MIA distributed RM 69,874.00 to 67 deserving youths who are part of Anak-Anak Baitumal MAIWP. These are the funds returned from MAIWP to MIA under the Wakalah scheme for the years 2021 and 2022. ‘Wakalah’ is the MAIWP’s programme for refunding overpayment of zakat to contributors. The money received under ‘Wakalah’ must be distributed to individuals who are eligible and recognised by MAIWP.

The 67 aid recipients are enrolled in accountancy studies at Kolej Professional Baitulmal Kuala Lumpur, which is a recognised institution under MAIWP. “This is very much in line with MIA’s mandate to develop the growth of young accountancy talents, as the regulator and developer of the accountancy profession. It is MIA’s hope that the funds will be useful in defraying the students’ expenditures, while also recognising the students’ diligent efforts to excel in accountancy education,” added Dr. Wan Ahmad Rudirman.

In his remarks, the MIA CEO encouraged the aid recipients to be resilient and diligent in pursuing a recognised accountancy qualification which can open doors to numerous opportunities. He also encouraged these aspiring young accountancy talents to sign up for the MIA membership upon earning a recognised qualification and attaining the requisite years of experience, as the accountancy profession can be the gateway to a bright future and enable their contribution to nation building.
