The Islamic educational series aims to bring globally renowned Islamic scholars and speakers to the Malaysian audience 

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad (“CIMB Islamic” or “the Bank”) announced its platinum sponsorship of Faith Events’ 2024 series of Islamic educational events featuring globally renowned speakers in the Islamic society, such as Nouman Ali Khan and Dr Omar Suleiman. The first of its series will see Sonny Bill Williams Live in Malaysia, together with Shaykh Wael Ibrahim, which will take place on the 17th and 18th of February 2024 at Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat, Kuala Lumpur. Sonny Bill Williams will be speaking across two days with both sessions titled “A Step Nearer to God” and “A Mile in My Shoes”, moderated by Shaykh Wael Ibrahim.

Sonny Bill, who hails from New Zealand, is a sporting legend with an illustrious career; a heavyweight boxer and a former professional rugby player who embraced Islam in 2009. He also became the first Muslim to play for the All Blacks. Since his conversion, he has become a vocal advocate for the faith, cultivating a deeper and more nuanced understanding of Islam through civil discourse and Islamic philanthropic initiatives.

The event will also feature Shaykh Wael Ibrahim, an internationally acclaimed Islamic speaker from Egypt, who is a founder and chairman of Serving Islam Team, an Islamic organisation based in Hong Kong and is currently a student counsellor at the Australian Islamic College in Perth, Australia.

Sonny Bill’s philanthropy efforts are reflected in the various initiatives he has embarked on over the years to improve the lives of local and global communities. In 2020, Sonny Bill donated his back-of-jersey spot to Gotcha4Life, an Australian mental fitness charity, along with an AUD10,000 donation that aimed to address mental health through mental fitness workshops and educational training. He has also helped raise funds to develop various Islamic infrastructures for the local communities, such as building new mosques.
