KUALA LUMPUR, April 19  (Bernama) -- PETRONAS has been made aware of multiple occasions of unauthorised and fraudulent use of our company name and logo, as well as the name and image of our President and Group CEO, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik.
 
Many of these incidents involve the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) software to impersonate PETRONAS officials, typically by altering and manipulating their image and voice. Images of PETRONAS officials are also being misused to create fake social messaging accounts to mislead the public.
 
Such manipulated images and untrue messages are being circulated on the internet particularly on social media platforms and social messaging channels with the intent of manipulating the public to participate in scams and non-existent investment schemes.
 
Police reports are being lodged with regard to these instances of misuse.
 
PETRONAS wishes to urge the public to be on high alert and heighten scrutiny, and rely only on PETRONAS' official communication channels for information.
