KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 (Bernama) -- NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB), a pioneering force in driving Malaysia's hydrogen initiative, stood at the forefront of the ASEAN Green Hydrogen Conference 2024 as the leading collaborator of the event. NanoMalaysia Berhad reaffirmed its commitment to advancing green hydrogen technology and fostering sustainable economic development in the ASEAN region.

The ASEAN Green Hydrogen Conference 2024 commenced with Opening Remarks and the Official Opening Ceremony by Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), Malaysia. The conference served as a premier platform for industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders to convene and explore the transformative potential of green hydrogen. Under the theme "Reshaping the Economy Through H₂ Technology," the conference aimed to catalyse green hydrogen initiatives' adoption, driving economic growth and environmental stewardship across ASEAN nations.

NMB has been at the forefront of Malaysia's hydrogen initiative, leveraging its distinctive Venture Builder model to actively engage in the startup and SME ecosystem since 2018 in hydrogen-related initiatives integrated with nanotechnology, including solid-state hydrogen, Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyser via nanomembrane technology, nanocatalyst-driven photochemical hydrogen production, and advanced pyrolysis capable of producing hydrogen and graphene as a by-product.

One of NMB's significant contributions is its role as the leading author of the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR). The core strategy behind HETR, "Build Some, Buy Some," underscores NMB's commitment to champion technology sovereignty by improving hydrogen productivity and efficiency using nanomaterials, particularly in hydrogen generation and end-use technologies. The NMB's 12th Malaysia Plan Hydrogen EcoNanoMy projects aim to establish a comprehensive ecosystem for hydrogen, encompassing technology development, investment, collaboration, and Intellectual Property (IP) advancement.

Dr Rezal Khairi Ahmad, Chief Executive of NanoMalaysia, said: "As the main author of the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR), NanoMalaysia Berhad is at the forefront of Malaysia's hydrogen initiative". He then added. "Our Venture Builder model empowers entrepreneurs and startups, granting them access to expertise and resources necessary for developing and commercialising hydrogen-related initiatives integrated with nanotechnology towards building an ecosystem by design by activating value and supply chains. Our subsidiary, Hypertech Industries, develops new intellectual properties for eventual private sector adoption and investment."

Malaysia's strategic location positions it as a critical hydrogen innovation and trading hub within the Asia Pacific region. With initiatives such as Government-to-Government partnerships and industry collaborations, Malaysia aims to facilitate the seamless hydrogen flow between exporters and consumer hubs across Asia.

The significance of green hydrogen in Malaysia's economic landscape cannot be understated. With the global hydrogen market projected to reach USD 189.19 billion by 2050, Malaysia aims to position itself within this lucrative ecosystem strategically. With market opportunities of USD 25.81 billion, the ASEAN region holds immense potential for green hydrogen initiatives, driving sustainable economic development and environmental stewardship.

The ASEAN Green Hydrogen Conference 2024 focuses on key themes, including policy and regulatory landscape, technological innovation and infrastructure, investment and financing strategies, industry integration, supply chain development, and sustainability and environmental impact, featuring over 43 professional industrial speakers, 20+ exhibitors, eight panel discussions, and 15 single presentations. The conference offered a comprehensive platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration. Experts across ASEAN, APAC, and Europe converged to explore the latest advancements, challenges, and opportunities in green hydrogen.
