KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Bernama) -- The Asia Nano Forum (ANF) has named Dr Rezal Khairi Ahmad, NanoMalaysia Berhad's CEO, its new president. This landmark appointment positions Dr Rezal and Malaysia to lead NanoMalaysia and ANF, marking a pivotal moment in the region's journey towards fostering international collaboration in nanotechnology. ANF Asia Nano Forum (ANF) is a network organisation across Asia, founded in May 2004 and now a registered society in Singapore, known as Asia Nano Forum Society, since Oct 2007.

Before this ascension, Dr Rezal served as ANF Vice President and Treasurer in previous terms. Dr Rezal offers a wealth of experience and leadership to his new job, having previously served as CEO of NanoMalaysia since January 2013. Additionally, he has been a Member of the Industry Advisory Panel for the Malaysian Petroleum Resources Corporation since 2021. He began serving as an international advisor for the China Graphene Industry Alliance (CGIA) in September 2017, establishing links with Malaysia's National Graphene Action Plan 2020 and promoting reciprocal economic gains. Dr. Rezal is well-positioned to propel NanoMalaysia and ANF towards their missions and objectives.

ANF has been at the forefront of promoting responsible development in the nanotechnology industry across the region. Guided by its mission to ensure that nanotechnology development brings educational, social, environmental, and economic benefits to each economy, ANF strives to foster collaboration and facilitate joint projects addressing major regional issues.

ANF comprises of members from Malaysia, Japan, Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, Austria, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Singapore. The ANF members serve to foster nanotechnology, supporting regional economic and environmental development, coordinating joint investments, promoting standardisation and safety, advocating for nanotechnology representation, initiating cooperative research projects, and enhancing public awareness and education.

Under ANF, a number of collaborative working groups were created, namely Commercialization, NanoSafety and Risk Management, Standards and User Facility Network to activate cross-border research and development cooperation, facilitate multilateral market penetration of nanotechnology products and mutual acceptance of nanotechnology product certification programmes. Dr Rezal founded the Commercialisation Working Group and was instrumental in brokering the deal in reciprocal acceptance of Malaysia and Taiwan’s certification programme in 2018.

Dr. Rezal's dual leadership role will synergise the efforts of NanoMalaysia and ANF, amplifying their impact on the regional nanotechnology landscape. With his proven track record of crafting successful business strategies and fostering collaboration among government agencies and industries, Dr Rezal is poised to steer both organisations towards greater heights of success. His appointment as President of ANF signals a new era of collaboration and innovation in the field of nanotechnology across Asia. Crucially, Dr Rezal shall leverage on this presidency to support and add value to Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair in 2025 from the technological development and commercialisation aspects aligning to the country’s perennial aspiration to become a technology creator nation.

Dr. Rezal expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, stating, "I am honoured to assume the presidency of the Asia Nano Forum and to continue leading it in our shared mission to advance nanotechnology for the benefit of society. By harnessing the collective expertise and resources of both NanoMalaysia and ANF, we can drive meaningful progress and unlock the full potential of nanotechnology in Asia and beyond towards the benefits of people, planet and profit."
