Books donated through the BSIB-FINCO Nationwide Book Drive, ready to inspire young minds at the Interactive Reading Corner
KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- Berjaya Sompo Insurance Berhad (Berjaya Sompo), in partnership with the Financial Industry Collective Outreach (FINCO), has successfully concluded the BSIB-FINCO Nationwide Book Drive, collecting a total of close to 1,600 books, reaffirming its commitment to supporting quality education and promoting sustainability culture. Aligned with Berjaya Sompo's dedication to fostering education excellence and embracing sustainability, the book drive served as a noteworthy Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiative. The campaign encouraged BSIB's stakeholders to contribute actively towards building a sustainable future, marked by a passion for learning and environmental consciousness. The initiative, which ran across 15 branch offices nationwide, was orchestrated to channel resources towards targeted schools, with 13 schools benefiting—one school representing each state where Berjaya Sompo maintains a presence with an additional 2 in Klang Valley. The impact of this initiative reached approximately 7,800 students, underscoring the drive's significance in enhancing educational opportunities for underprivileged youth. Berjaya Sompo, a distinguished general insurer renowned for its commitment to community welfare, spearheaded the effort alongside FINCO, a not-for-profit organisation established with the support of Bank Negara Malaysia. Since its inception in 2017, FINCO has been instrumental in implementing sustainable and impactful educational initiatives to empower disadvantaged children and youth across Malaysia. Through collaboration with FINCO, Berjaya Sompo leveraged its collective influence to mobilise resources, expertise, and partnerships to address the critical needs of young people from B40 communities. The initiative aspires to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfil their potential and realise their life goals by providing access to educational resources and opportunities. The BSIB-FINCO Nationwide Book Drive concluded with an impressive collection of 1,525 books, symbolising both organisations' collective effort and commitment towards driving positive change in the community. These books will serve as valuable educational resources, enriching students' learning experiences and fostering a culture of literacy and sustainability. Speaking on behalf of Berjaya Sompo, Mr Tan Sek Kee, Chief Executive Officer, expressed gratitude for the support received from staff, agents, partners, and the public throughout the campaign. "Our collaboration with FINCO reflects our dedication to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people, particularly those from underserved communities. By promoting access to education and embracing sustainability, we aim to build a brighter and more inclusive future for all." As the nation's financial industry unites under the banner of social responsibility, initiatives like the BSIB-FINCO Nationwide Book Drive serve as shining examples of collective action towards driving positive social change and fostering sustainable development. “The students reached through this collaboration will now have access to more books spanning a variety of genres and difficulty levels, which will encourage them to read for pleasure. Instilling a love for reading at a young age allows students to build on their foundational English language skills and also provides opportunities to develop crucial critical reading skills such as the ability to analyse, question, and understand information critically, which can help them make informed decisions later in life,” said FINCO Chief Executive Officer, Ms Clare Walker.
